Absolutely. There are big differences in liability for a manufacturer when it comes to prototypes being driven by the general public off-road (on a controlled course) vs. on-road on a public highway. Here in the (litigation-crazy) U.S. the general public would never be allowed to drive a prototype on the open road. Once the vehicles start coming off the production line, test drives will open-up, and we (the public) will be able to drive both on and off road.I think the largest hurdle is that off road/closed course conditions are way different than on public roads vis a vis allowing a civilian to drive vs a company employee. Whenever I have been a dealer employee in a test drive scenario, I have had plenty of latitude compared to a "customer". Of course we all had to sign waivers. I think that putting a prototype on the road in the hands of a "customer" is a bridge too far for their insurance coverage.
