Another consideration when mounting lights on the front bumper is blocking air flow to the radiator. For most vehicles, this is not a problem, but for ones that run hot (i.e. have inadequate cooling) it is. For example, the Jeep 3.0 diesel runs really hot, and there is not adequate cooling; mounting lights in front of the grill just makes it worse. On the other hand, Toyota 4x4s seem to manage heat really well. We don't know yet how well the Grenadier manages heat, though I'm sure we all imagine it does well. They need to get some vehicles out for test drives and rigorous reviews by people who will put them through their paces both on and off road.
Agreed, too many people load up the front bull bar with big round spot lights on the front, blocking critical airflow. Mind you, my relative had a Landcruiser 200 that didn’t handle the heat too well either - but he did put a couple of Lighforce on the top of the ARB bar.

You are not allowed to mount lights n top of bullbars anymore in Australia. Nothing is allowed above the bonnet line for pedestrian safety.

“The ADR now aligns the vehicle safety standards to the international standards of a maximum of four additional lamps, removing the former requirements of lights in pairs of two or four.

“These changes also allow for single driving lamps to be fitted.

“An LED light bar is considered to be one lamp if all of the LEDs operate together. If an LED has different parts or sections that can be switched on or off independent of other parts (sometimes referred to as being switchable) then each independently controlled section counts as a lamp.”

Sorry - they were mounted on the top of the bull bars - bar, not the top loop, thus why they affected air flow to the radiator, transmission cooler etc.

State of California: #1 is legal (”driving lights” mounted higher than the headlights are generally not permitted on-road unless opaque covers are fitted).

I haven't had any problems in the past but I know of people who have chipped to increase power and added huge bull bars/bumpers and bash plates on their vehicles who have had problems when they added 4 spots and 2 light bars. The BMW engine has been detuned so much in this vehicle that I am not anticipating any problems. It has also been crammed into a lot of smaller vehicles with less frontal area. I am only talking about the diesel. No idea about the petrol version.

Yeah, most of the big light set-ups are for off-road only. California gets a little too into people's business for my taste, but this is one reg I can get behind.

I want to have as much light as I legally can when driving on the road. I have just come back from my holiday house in my standard car with no extra lights or bull bar and it is worrying driving at dawn, dusk or at night. So many animals potentially jumping/running out from the side of the road. Even at only 80kmh you really need to see them, and have them see you, as far away as possible. I have just been reading through the laws in Queensland and have had to change my plans.

So you were going to put a LED bar on the top hoop of the Roo Bar weren't you mate?
What are you leaning towards now?
I had planned on putting two small light bars with 4,000 lumens each, that can have amber covers on them, aimed slightly outwards, so I could use them as infill, without the covers or as fogs with the amber covers fitted. also either 1 round spot light or a light bar. switched independently but linked to high beam as required.

I see the light bar requires a rack or a bar. Thinking the correct solution is to buy all of this from a third party, although I do like the IG roof rack.

i'm walking back from the pub, there's a guy about 150yards in front. I would say his left leg is about 3inches shorter than his right or he has had a trouser accident and trusted a fart that he shouldn't have - is this you?

Light bar in action - seems to be knocking a little more light/power at each end:

I think it was initially labelled as a 40" light bar, but now there's no mention of the length:

So the Pocket Guide:

appears to preview a couple of LED light bars ~ one for the rear and one at the side that seems to clamp on the tie down bars:

bit, but it depends on brand and fitment etc. Sure, you can buy a cheap Chinese lightbar for £100 and install it yourself, but that's probably not going to look great in a year, and wont perform like a premium brand.
A good legal high beam lightbar with 1 m length (like the Osram VX1000) is about 350 to 400 €. There are brighter ones, like Baja, but these go up to 1000 €. You also have to be aware of the reference number, which is even more restricted in the US to 150000 cd whereas the UN-ECE which applies in Europe allow 430000 cd.

In Europe the 430000 cd are assigned a value of "100" you're not allowed to exceed with high beam lights. The grenadier high beam in the headlight have 17,5 each, so 35. I don't know what the additional high beam light in the front guard havem but let's assume 12,5. So additional 25. That ends up with 60 in total. So you're free to add two high beam lights with 20 each. That is useless.

So you're option is to add a light bar with no high beam marks (thereby classified as a working light, switched independently from the main high beam) and you're free, no limits. please be aware that the light within the power of UN-ECE regulations still need to have a UN-ECE R10 mark (10R) to be legal.

Cheers
AWo
