How important is fuel economy to you?

Cali - vote in to go broke and leave the state... that's what the voters do because they do not like how Cali is going!!!

ok - spoken by the ex penal colony guy
Our ancestors were specially chosen by the judiciary for a very important mission: To lay claim to the great southern land before the French...true story. La Perouse arrived a few days later ...the French had lost the race. Otherwise we'd be like Canada ...Sacre Bleu! As it is we're tribalised by State boundaries and football team allegiances:ROFLMAO:

2 months is a good start, lots of people come for 1-2 weeks
Chinese tourists used to get 5 days and they would see Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Ayres Rock

Same here - folks come to the US and see New York City or Los Angeles = 'I've seen the US'

It is unusual for Chinese to travel for holidays at the best of times.
They get Chinese new year off but typically that is spent with family
In Australia we get a guaranteed minimum of 4 weeks off a year plus 7-10 public holidays.
All fully paid of course.
Some companies provide more than that
They do expect you to take them every year though, not accumulate them.

Many years ago I employed a guy from the US who had a Japanese wife and small children.
At the final interview he tried to negotiate two weeks of holidays as part of his package so he could visit both countries each year.
I thought he meant on top of what he got as standard.

When I asked why he needed more than the 4 weeks he couldn't believe we were giving him holidays as standard.

Probably changed now but back then he said in US he typically got no holidays for first two years and then 1 week holidays after that, not paid.
However I think he said your employer would get pissed off if you took them.

Most of my previous employers prefer senior managers to only take 2 weeks off at a time so I would take April and September breaks.

On the Gold Coast Dave... Chinese come to holiday all year round and there are MANY of them. Probably be more if there was a competitive airline market her in Oz...

The one with feet or the one with hands?
Australian Rules.. (www.afl.com.au) with feet and hands and brains! ... as also played by enthusiastic amateurs in LA and Austin Tx!! Several "big kickers" from Aussie Rules have, over the years, been recruited by US NFL teams as specialised "punters?".. but it‘s not a common trade. I find NFL mentally absorbing, it's become so exacting in terms of "plays".. almost like chess in terms of tactics.... but that's for another time!

I am quite a number maniac, I have an excel with all (ALL) costs of my Suzuki Grand Vitara.
I have the car almost 10 years now, and I spent almost as much money in buying the car as I spent in diesel.
My average consumption is 7.92 l/100km (diesel), or 35.7 MPG (Imperial) or 29.7 MPG (US) ... ("Jesus", I prefer the metric system!).
On motorways, and even worse on German motorways where I drive faster, I can reach easily 10 l/100 km.
The lowest consumption is around 6.75 l/100 km when I don't drive on motorways at speeds around 80 km/h.

I know the Grenadier will be about 12l/100 km (Petrol), and that is indeed a big difference. But if I decided I can afford the price, I knew it "had a price!".
I pretend to have a new Excel sheet with all my costs for the Grenadier, and will share the results here ;)
Jean, I scrolled through this thread but didn't see your TCO for the IG. I have started my due diligence on the financial part and was hoping I could compare to yours to see if I left anything out. I've attached my TCO.

Just did a 1000km round trip. Diesel. On the blacktop all the way. Average speed 80kph. Max motorway speed was 100kph - set by GPS not by the speedo. Used cruise control a lot. Fuel use was 11.1 L/100km.
With the caravan the Grenny (Diesel) sucks 15l/100km, which is not bad. Speed is around 110km/h. Funny: The T6 as a tractor sucks more, something around 16l/100km with the same speed but more RPMs.
I tested it in France, where I can drive 120km/h with the caravan on the highway (péage). It goes up to 18l/100km.
Caravan is a Buccaneer (2000kg).

I do not think people are being truthful about their cost sensitivity to fuel consumption.

Certainly here in the states the volume of vehicle sales with the larger motors parallels the rise and fall of fuel prices.

The Toyota large SUV volume died very specifically because they were gas hogs.

Do I wish the MPG was better? Sure when gas is $6.49 a gallon in CA. Did I expect better - I thought about 20MPG so at 15 it does suck. But, this has the aerodynamic profile of a brick and is very heavy - so choice is to buy it or walk and I'm going to buy and enjoy it.
