Considering that I have no intention of fitting a winch now or ever, do you think it is possible that sooner or later someone will produce a less protruding and legal aftermarket bumper? Gaining a few cm on the Grenedier's considerable length wouldn't be bad...

I would guess that to be a given. There are already several options out there which appear to have a lower profile.

My front bumper doesn't protrude much and I also don't have plans to fit a winch.

The Australian bumper is metal and not as huge as the UK/EU bumper.
AUS 4855 mm long and UK 4896 mm long all in the front bumper.
Seems longer than that though
That’s good for you. I thought UK, EU, Aus’, NZ, etc shared the same plastic bumper.

Given the relatively low sales volume of the Grenadier I would think any aftermarket accessories provider would design a replacement bumper with space to fit a winch (if they are driven by the profit motive). It might be up swept in the corners but if anything deeper in the centre to fit the larger spool capacity of most winches. The Offroad Animal bumper is a good example.

I think the bumper size and material was based on the number of kangaroos you are likely to hit. Ergo in the UK we get the plastic picnic table, whilst our friends in Oz get a bumper 🫠

Aesthetics aside, Owls bumper is very close to the body…so close they had to apparently move the side radiators to gain the extra clearance.

Granted it is designed to hold a winch but even without one, it’s the tightest to the truck version I’ve seen.

In Europe it could only be a plastic bumper like ARB makes some for the Ranger and Hilux. It is not allowed anymore to replace a plastic bumper with a steel one, except it holds a winch.

If one can post field K of thr vehicle registration documebts I could say more about the regulations which apply.

Fortunately, the UK is still reasonably relaxed about such things. Insurance may prove a bigger challenge

I like that a lot

Am I alone in quite liking the step/seat of the UK big bumper?

I wasn’t sure at first but have used it plenty and function beats form in my book.
Personal preference I guess, I am not a fan of the massive underbite look. It’s actually worse in the EU spec vehicles. I think the plastic bumper sticks out around 50mm more than the steel one..

I really dislike our Plastic version. Would be happy to fit the XLW one, but I realise it won't comply with UK law, so will probably pass.

I’m not sure it’s illegal if you fit a winch.. I am also not sure what constitutes a bull bar. A simple steel bumper with no a frame or hoops is ok if you fit a winch.. But I can’t find confirmation of that anywhere… You do need to tell your insurer though.
