Anyone here with expertise in paint finishes and wrapping?

I have heard (don’t know how accurate it is) that the reason that the option to have nose and tail wrapped in a separate colour from the factory was dropped, was that the paint needs more time to cure before wrapping and that wrapping that early after production and painting was causing paint quality issues.

I was planning to put a clear self healing wrap on mine shortly after delivery to protect from bush pinstriping and bird droppings etc. anyone know how long paint needs to cure before this is a good idea? Is delivery time (1-3 months) enough or should I wait 6 months?

There is an australian company called "bushrapz" who do DIY kits for 4x4. Obviously no Grenadier one yet but I'd be surprised if they don't do one. I'm thinking I'd do this.

The really hard PPF bits are around the curves but that will be covered by a bull bar. Probably only need the sides done.

Does anyone have experience with ceramic coating as an alternative to wrap?
I haven't had a ceramic coating.. seems to be the new thing.

It's different though.. it's more like a long lasting wax. More intended to protect against surface contaminants and make washing quicker.

PPF is a physical film.. ideal for taking pin stripes from trees etc.

Yeah, I guess I was wondering how scratch resistant it is. I'll do some more research. Thx

And PPF can be healed; on the ones I’ve seen online, you just hit the marred area with a little heat and it fixes itself.

I think if your PPF takes a big hit it can only do so much. But the grenadier has a big ugly black bar and I'll probably pick the roo bar so the front is pretty tough.

I really think the PPF will be ideal for tree pinstripes.

Yes, for country pinstripes. PPF won’t prevent damage from a charging rhino. 🦏

My only " experience " with ceramic coating was to reject it on strong advice from a family member with 25+ yrs in the automotive paint shop business. Makes stone chip touch up repair jobs almost impossible. The whole panel has to be treated to remove the coating, then repainted, then reapply the ceramic coating....
He recommended "several" months are required for wrap to allow paint to harden/cure.
I did a diy clear wrap behind door handles etc ...worked v well to stop scratches inflicted by females sporting long finger nails

Thanks for that perspective, appreciated.

We just got ceramic coating on our other car, after the wife wanted to take care of it herself, and misidentified the product. (She wanted clear bra.) Anyway, it doesn't do crap for chips and road rocks. Already got chips through the ceramic. But the water sure does bead up nicely! sigh....

Yes I contacted them a while ago and suggested they look into it.

Ceramic coated my F-Type, it’s awesome for a street vehicle, a basic wash will give you a just polished look for years. But for pinstripes in the bush etc its not the same level of protection as a wrap.

Single stage 'Ceramic' coatings are easily removed with panelwipe-type degreasers and don't pose a problem with repainting. Older cellulose style paints require 3-6 months curing but modern isocyanate 2pack paints need very short times to cure so a decent wrap/PPF like a 3M product can go on after 24hrs. My only slight concern is INEOS are using a rather new eco paint system and withdrew their wrapping option so I'd probably want to double check it's compatible. I went for a flat paint option specifically to avoid this faff!

Yes thats my concern, I also have a flat paint, but its dark (Brittania Blue) so still worried the pin stripes etc will show a lot. Also will spend a bit of time outside and worried about bird droppings etc.

I am not anywhere near an expert but I have been doing research
The best wraps last 5-8 years at best and can start peeling and discolouring earlier I was told.
They can also be very hard to get off or come off extremely easily
The issue is partly impacted by warranty
Ineos have good warranty which would include the wraps

Sorry that I can’t answer your question (which a company that does wrappings probably can)
But could you tell me what self healing transparent wrapping you want to apply? I did never hear about it.

Ask the company doing the wrapping for Ineos ~ OK they're a vested interest, but I doubt anyone will have more experience on questions regarding the Grenadier paint finish.

I think they have even applied, removed, and applied again to several vehicles.

Ask them what warranty they give for their wraps specifically. I'm cautious on Ineos' warranty as it's silent on wrapping as being part of the paint warranty; and there's a few statements that could trip you up in making any claim.

As a last point, I thought people had reported on here recently that Ineos representatives had called them up asking if they now wanted a wrap added to their order? So maybe the initial issues, whether with the wrap, the paint, or even the application personnel, have been sorted.
