Winter observations

Look up owl sliders / steps.. I think it will do well in the winter.. very porous and ample surface area
Yeah - I really like the look of the Owls, but the rounded tube on the frame - and although the face of the step is porous (all the holes), there’s nothing like a spiked surface - so if those get freezing sleet on them, it’s a problem. I’m THINKING Buzz is probably the way to go (more of a true corner on the edge, and the cutouts protrude above the step surface), but also expect to see a couple more options in the market next year. We’ll see. Early trout season starts up in a week, so I’m kind of at “pencils down” on truck projects for now. I got things to “good enough” for year 1, and will do more tweaking for year 2.

This. I drop my Gren off in a couple weeks for a small list of items. I didn’t add sticking door buttons. Is there an actual factory fix, or am I better off adjusting the two wet-sticky buttons with a rubber mallet? No sense I asking the dealer to spend a bunch of time to put the same parts back in?!
Don’t bother. The fix is only temporary and doesn’t make much difference. Best fix is to spray silicone spray inside. The door button will fix itself over time once it’s worn in. The Grenadier gets better overtime.

Worst thing, is to get the dealer to open up the door cards, rip open the vapour plastic barrier and change the door button. The door is never the same with rattles and loose clips or missing screw. I had one door done and eventually I had to open up the door card myself to discover a missing screw which I later found at the bottom of the door rattling away.

i dropped mine off yesterday and the head of service described a process by which they remove the inside door panel and then the lock mechanism is removed and then they repack the mechanism with new or different lubricant. he said it takes at least 2 hours a door and did not convince me that this was a perfect or permanent solution ....not sure if this helps

This was my exact concern. I will discuss it prior to my January service, but I don't want to waste their time needlessly messing with my vehicle. Plus, I've yet to try the mallet adjustment on the offending door.

OK - couple more winter observation. Few weeks ago I went fly fishing - the country roads had been pre-treated (storm coming in the next day), so there were brine lines on the road. LDW went BONKERS - just constant - just had to turn it off to avoid losing my mind (well, losing it MORE is more accurate). Other than that, heat worked fine all winter (even in -25F temps), I usually just run it on “auto” and don’t use the high fan setting, snow tires were a big improvement over the K02’s, although it’s been a pretty dry winter. The ExoShield did lift on one corner, unfortunately- only 8 months since I installed it, and I only use a car wash about once a month. I also have a heated garage, so there’s not much excuse for this. I think I’ll switch to a manual wash. The Exoshield is going to be fixed without charge - I had it done by a contractor that my Ineos dealer uses.

@CrazyOldMan How is the Exoshield resisting wiper marks/scratches?
I’ve not noticed any visible scratches - it’s been fine so far (again, the universe will punish me for my optimism so I have to tread lightly to avoid the Wrath of the Midwest gods). If you wear polarized glasses, you will notice a slight rainbow effect - but I got used to it and don’t notice it as much. But yeah - having that corner lift was a disappointment. If there’s any way you can do this through your Ineos dealer, I think you’re more likely to get support if it needs to be replaced. It does come with a warranty if installed by a certified shop - I can’t remember the duration, but the paperwork said it should last up to 3 years before needing replacement. But I figure $700 every 2-3 years is better than $2000 every year - right?
