Does anyone know what exactly is in the winch recovery kit. It’s not documented in the brochure. Just a picture so can’t really make whether it’s good value. Trying to weigh up whether to put my own together or buy the Ineos/red winch kit.

I'd assumed the configurator photo would be accurate :

As some is clearly Red branded it must be possible to benchmark the cost on Red's website?

If you attend any 4x4 shows, it just the sort of stuff that certain vendors will bring in bulk, stack it high & sell at decent "show offer" prices.

Doesn't help you if you don't have to start with however.

My initial thought (not having checked any prices recently) is it looks expensive.

I priced it up on the Red Winches UK site. Had to take a punt on a couple of the items. Came to the conclusion the deal from Ineos, prior to the latest price rise, saved about £20. Plus point the cost is buried in the total cost of the Grenadier. 😉

Thanks for the replies. This is the photo I had seen,I thought I may have missed something as seems rather expensive.
checking on the Red winch site and the kit bag alone costs £72. Rather expensive for a canvas kit bag. Think I’ll put my own kit together including snatch rings and soft shackles. 👍

And by the way I’ve just sold all my previous recovery kit, as a job lot with the Defender. Sold it as a fully kitted out overland build, so need to start again with a clean sheet for the Grenadier.
on another note is anyone going for the rhino rack 270degree awning with their build. I had an ostrich wing awning with my defender and will definitely be going for one of those again. They are super strong, no poles needed under normal conditions,!

Anybody going to have a go a splicing their own soft shackles or maybe re splicing the winch so as to put a spliced aluminium winch thimble in the end ?
I have just purchased a few metres of dyneema rope to have a go. Smaller size first before purchasing 10mm for recovery kit. Plenty of instructional utube videos and looks straight forward especially end loops in dyneema rope.

Soft shackles first attempt. 1.5mm of 4mm x12 strand dyneema rope. The diamond knot took a bit of mastering. I’ll make a few more with 4mm for general use instead of caribiners. Then once accomplished I’ll make 10mm ones as recovery soft shackles. It’s quits satisfying E8C5C2FE-6F9F-412B-889A-0726E4127440.jpegECA41116-6EC0-4805-B54B-A372A2119F11.jpeg

That should have read 1.5metres of 4mm. Its surprising how much you need to make a soft shackle.

Update on making your own soft shackles.
The latest soft shackle I’ve just completed is made with 10mm dyneema. I used 2.5m for one shackle 😳. .4-.5m is wastage but you neeed this extra length to make and work the diamond knot. I tried various prototypes including one with the “new improved stopper knot” which is called the big overhand knot , which is apparently even stronger as the two end are formed into a loops and the whole shackle threaded through itself. The downside is that the stopper knot is huge when using 10mm dyneema and 3m is required for one shackle.
one picture shows the shackle before working ends cut off and the other the finished article. A point to note is that dyneema doesn’t melt well when trying to seal the ends as mdpe rope does. In the end I used fire rope glue from our wood burning stoves. Similar to super glue I guess.
A satisfying project with more to make in different styles and stopper knots. Some of the stopper knots take some mastering 🤔EB8F52A4-D06D-43B3-AA99-01B65CC47E9B.jpeg7C74781C-9DD5-4617-A8A7-7993B74CA826.jpeg
