I was a fence sitter regarding specing a winch.

I ended up getting it - Well today it paid for itself.

A Father’s Day short drive ended with one side of the vehicle dropping into sloppy goop and sank to the body. Even with both lockers in she wasn’t going anywhere.

Of course just being a quiet drive with the wife I had neglected to put the recovery bag in the vehicle.🤦‍♂️ So I was restricted in finding an anchor within 10 m of the vehicle. Which was a shame as 10m more was a perfect winch tree.

Ended up doing a 90 degree pull to scull drag the front onto firm ground. Was easy on the greasy ground. Was lucky I didn’t have to walk the 5km to get phone reception.

Two lessons.
Keep recovery gear in vehicle at all times. And have a couple of extension ropes and a shovel at all times.

Good save, and you get to keep your marriage!
Re packing - I've said it before , think of the worst case scenario...and double it!

Yep although I got the “I told you to put the recovery gear in the car” all way home.

Since I got home I have
1. Put recovery gear in vehicle 😎
2. Put a trenching shovel in
3. Replaced batteries in winch control and have two spare batteries AAAs plus screwdriver to suit.
4. purchase another 30m extension rope.

Looks like I might the red light to get some more recovery goodies 😁
