I had a call from Laura ( Spanish but with very good knowledge of English ) 20 minutes ago. She was polite and keen to get honest opinion and answers as to customer service
from Ineos and dealers as well as the vehicle itself. I told her that I was happy to give these but hoped it wouldn't be time wasted if nothing happened as a result.
She certainly knew about the faults and problems experienced by fellow Forum members and the Forum itself - so maybe someone up there is listening and reading
our comments !!
I also have a constructive call from Laura.

Yes Harwoods are doing their best and to be fair People higher up the chain at Ineos have been supportive and trying to speed things long. It’s my frustration at not being able to do anything and the fact I’ve been reading up on the parts support that leaves much to be desired.
I can accept things going wrong or breaking. S—t happens but just get it sorted promptly is where I’m coming from. If it takes a week or more to get a part In the U.K. just think how long it would take in more remote regions of the world.

PARTS SUPPORT

We know you depend on your Grenadier. You can’t afford costly downtime. So, our approved network of local workshops will carry common parts and we’ll aim to provide delivery in maximum 48 hours for any we don’t have on the shelf.
This is the only thing that will matter in 12 months' time - can IA keep the vehicles running (repaired when required) in a timely manner. Reliability is a primary selling point for this vehicle.

And this is exactly why I am waiting for at least a year or 2, possibly 3 before I buy, I am certainly not going from what is supposed to be the worlds most unreliable 4wd to a worse one with no good independent mechanics who specialise in them , currently they are 1000 times worse than my faultless unreliable 4wd

This is spot on. Especially the spare part availability is a critical element. My biggest fear is to be somewhere stranded because of a software bug anyway....

Well I’m still waiting on a replacement Gateway control unit , eight days and counting and the vehicle is stuck at the dealers. Harwoods are chasing every day and it’s supposedly in the post. How long would it take to get parts in more remote regions or where Ineos don’t have dealerships? Frustrating 🤬

I hope that's just a turn of phrase.

I'd expect what will probably be a reasonably expensive part to be tracked via one of the Tier 1 courier companies.

No it’s not a turn of phrase. Harwoods are as frustrated as I am and have been pushing hard.

Did you ave a gateway error in your info screen? Saw in one of the FB forums that this message came up. I am really worried that this is a potential weak spot in the car.
No my error on the screen was power steering error but caused by faulty gateway control module. Well anyway I hope that’s the cause of the fault and that a new module fixes the problem, otherwise it’s back to the drawing board to diagnose the fault.

Got it. Would be interesting what caused the damage. Just faulty electronics or something else.

@Logsplitter ~ I can see how a faulty gateway control module can cause the screen warnings and power steering function to be inoperative; but wasn't one of your issues that the steering physically jammed and you couldn't turn it at all, not just with increased resistance?

That’s what I thought on the initial breakdown as almost impossible to move steering at standstill but however with extreme effort it can be moved especially when moving. My wife couldn’t move it at all.
I am strong as I keep fit but it is real difficult.
I am going to collect today as module has been replaced

That's worrying.

I'm trying to recall if the engine/ignition was on when I jacked the front up and went from lock to lock for some photos of the steering lock stops; I do recall the steering being very easy to move with one hand though. I actually think it was off.

Given it's an electric pump, I wonder if pulling the fuse and driving it around would give your symptoms or different?

Your inability to move the steering almost sounds like the hydraulics were active but working against you.

🤞

Yes I’ve thought of that also. Pulling the power steering pump fuse. Maybe I could try to test the power steering pump theory by pulling the fuse but don’t want to upset the temperamental electronics 🤔. I am not a mechanic and have to go along with what Ineos are saying that it’s the gateway control module. But believe me it seriously takes some strength to turn the steering wheel but eases as speed increases . 30 mph was all i was comfortable with no power steering

No consolation folks but I’ve just returned from a dealer visit with my eight month old Citroen eC4, a battery electric vehicle. Went in for one recall, aircon compressor software fix which was corrupting other systems. Upon arrival dealer told me of two other July recalls for steering and battery software. Four hours to update the software if they managed it at first attempt.
Ineos are not alone, they would appear to have done well when we compare their resources and experience to Stellantis who are multi-branded with worldwide reach.

This experience makes me more relaxed about the IA software glitches.
