Worse than a JK?

Yes. I had a Bronco after a long wait and the Bronco hard top was louder than my 2018 Jeep Rubicon soft top. The Bronco was very loud and Ford has not figured out how to do a removable top like Jeep (finally) figured out. I had TJ and JL Jeeps. I like the Bronco styling but sold it for a New Defender which is a fine truck but I don't love it and don't want to own it long term. It will be ok until I get a Grenadier.

I have always liked and driven Jeeps and never had any real issues like others with death wobble, leaks, etc. And they all held their value well.

I look at the Grenadier as a premium jeep like vehicle. The removable top creates some challenges that the Grenadier will not have and the safari windows will be fine for me for a more open air experience.

How does the 4BD1T compare to the Td5?
Very different, almost chalk and cheese.

4BD1T is a light commercial engine, so an abundance of torque from idle, unlike the Td5. Td5 goes harder once the turbo kicks in. 4BD1T is a lot courser and less refined than the Td5. I have LOTS of sound deadening for the 4BD1T.

You tend to drive them very differently, no point revving the 4BD1T as opposed to the Td5.

I much prefer the 4BD1T, simpler and more torque available all the time. 1:1.1 gear set in the LT230 is just about right for highway if running 255s (although you want to be very careful with the R380 5th gear and those torque pulses from the 4BD1).

I have had Defenders/110 with 300Tdi and Td5, I think the best engine from the factory for the Defender is the 4BD1.

Nissan Pathfinder R51 - underrated workhorse with over 250k's that has never let me down - Nissan stopped selling them (here in AUS) so I've been waiting for a decent replacement.
Toyota CH-R hybrid - it took some convincing to get her to agree to the hybrid.
Lancia Beta 2000 Coupe - analog heaven :)

V12.
i have searched over 5 years for a rustfree 4.2 with aircondition and leather Interieur.
my father has one of the first in Germany, horrible quality and has gone after 7 years by rust.
then I found the V12 by an old gentleman, the car has not seen rain or snow the last 32 jeans he owned it.
and only 30 tkm in this time.
