What did you do with your Grenadier today?

Hi Jert, Would you be able to measure how high the tread portion of the rock slider steps are off the ground and let me know what size rim and tire you have on your Grenadier. I am considering ordering these, however need to know the height in advance to see if they would be low enough for my wife and nieces and nephews to get into the Grenadier. Thanks, DaBull
+ me 2 😉

I've been staffing a stand at the Emergency Services Show 2023 for the last 2.5 days, (half a day to set up and 2 days open to the visitors), driving the 108 mile around trip each day. No issues from the Grenadier and a few people in the show asking me about it.

I have been representing 4x4 Response UK, the umbrella group for 35+ regionally based 4x4 Response groups around the UK, who offer logistical support during adverse weather or other emergencies, 4x4 Response UK

Installed my Buzz Overland stainless steel hinge steps last night.

One thing I took from my summer trip in the Grenadier was putting up and taking down the roof tent was difficult on such a tall vehicle. Mainly packing away when trying to tuck in tent material round the sides. I found myself with one foot on the tire, and one shoeless foot on the inner arm rest of the rear door.... not ideal long term. When Buzz came out with these, I put my name down straight away. Nice simple solution that also fits with the look of the vehicle. Easy to install, only took 10 minutes a side if that.

Cleaned the boot plastic ready to take the Titan Covers velcro strips tomorrow.

Dumped the 'boot wash' water out of both driver and passenger side doors!

Cut a Halfords 'special' boot mat to fit (as per @emax instructions)

Drove up to Firle Beacon on the South Downs and took the hounds for a stroll.

Great looking trio!

You won't believe ... I broke my own world record.

But first some story: drove home from Wolfratshausen, Germany to Belgium through Luxemburg. Could make this picture 📸 from a bus, with strange not centered white non perfect circles on the back :

The whole day I had the following message on my screen, and this already my whole three weeks trip ( number of days changed of course):
20230921_163819.jpg

Disturbing, goes on and off, why is this necessary while I want to see my petrol consumption for instance

And than suddenly a message that I should service my car (maintenance) within 2000 km. No picture, it appeared only once.

I drove the whole day, more than 800 km, mainly motorways and highways (to please all English speaking people) and my tank became empty. I hoped to make it to Luxemburg where petrol is cheaper, but, in sight of the border, like 10 km , I got of the motorway, because only one or zero red stripes, and two villages at 2 km. Great was my dismay, the closest petrol station was at 11 km, way back or 13 km in Luxemburg.

Therefore, the risk, off the motorway (because falling without gas on the motorway can mean a huge fine), and driving carefully to Luxemburg. I made it! Yes the tank of the Grenadier contains more than 90 liters:

I swear I always let the pistol of the tank station go off by itself, and don't add a drop. I swear also that I was sweating 🥵

Then, after 10 minutes driving I got the next warning ⚠️;

20230921_163812.jpg

Knowing Ineos and their very early warnings, I didn’t care, it was orange 🍊 after all. It stayed on and off for some time, and then disappeared.

The good thing about coming 🏡: my car was washed, all the outside Romanian and Hungarian dust gone: as always, it 🌧, welcome 🏡

Couldn't the petrol station attendant have checked the oil after filling up your car? That's the way it used to be. 😄

Jean my friend very good write up. Out of curiosity Did you perform an engine oil level check ?
Have never seen an oil level low warning sign with any of the other cars .
Thnx !

Haha we need a new thread "Hall of empty tank" to see who are new record holders of the most empty tank and still making it under own power to a gas station.
I think Jean is for sure record holder ;)

Ahead of expected Grenadier delivery within the week we proceeded with our RTT plans.
Installed a quick release system. Whilst the FR rack+release barckets should clear my 2.2m workplace height bar , the RTT needs to come off . And given the height of the car it's a more than 2 person standing on steps job. Plus tightening 8 bolts each time on a RTT is an awkward PITA and a task which gets harder with age!
With a small electric hoist this should allow fitting/removal of the RTT with 1-2 people in around 5 minutes.
Quick release = money well spent.

https://www.frontrunneroutfitters.c...e-tent-mount-kit-4-piece-by-front-runner.html

& there is plenty of space behind the RTT on the 3/4 rack for tent awning and recovery boards.
