Today I took four pallets (and a few other bits of wood) to the local recycling centre. Love the capacity in the back, and especially the tie-down points.

Took a mate and his son to his father's house in Saltfleet near Louth, Lincolnshire, with a view to recover a boat to Hinkley, Leicestershire. We ran into few problems, starting with a motorhome sunk into the ground and needing towing out. The Grenadier did that with no problems. The next issue was to move a Ferguson tractor a few metres forwards to get more access to the boat.

The boat, a sizable 22' inshore fishing boat, was part full of water, had a lot of rotten woodwork loosely attached to a GRP hull, so some of the wood was taken off, much of the water drained out and the engine given a brief stare, (inboard 2 cylinder Mercedes diesel from about 40 years ago). The original idea was to tow the trailer 95 miles to Hinckley, but closer examination showed that the trailer was a home made launching dolly, not intended for extended road work, (no brakes, no lights, no idea of weight, single axle on something I'd guess would be 2.5-3.0 tonnes).

As we could not tow it legally, (his father had launched from the local slipway using the Fergie to tow the lauching trailer), we moved it from the soft ground to the hardstanding at the front of the house, which took nearly two hours and a lot of ropework (- I should have bought the Winch!). The mate will do some more research and either get it moved using a beavertail or break it up and salvage the engine, he'll make the decision in the new year.

160 miles there and back and a few hours hard labour. (The door seals and the heater fix seem to work a treat).

Hit the mountains yesterday and found some old tracks. Great to get off the hard stuff onto some proper mucky tracks. Car performed flawlessly.
Couldn’t quite remember all the instructions for the various off road settings hi/low etc from the dealer so had to pull out the manual 🫣 I’ll never live it down 🤪

Assisted by my wife , who also absorbed a few swear words, we ran the wire from the air comp circuit to the NATO solenoid. That panel was a bit of a PITA to remove , broke one clip (top middle next to window); putting it back was hampered by the gnarly under the seat bit lower left on the panel , which was also hitting the wire (covered in conduit). So we chopped off that corner and it went back well.
Also ran the Gator reverse camera wires under the cargo floor and out the drain plug hole. I used a shock absorber bushing as the grommet, which fitted perfectly.
And everything works as it should.
Will pull the air comp fuse for everyday use so the NATO isn't always live.
Waiting on a NATO male plug to finish the tow/Anderson link.
Got an email the other day to say van is due in Oz 1st week of January. Hopefully get it by the end of the month.

I went to my dealer for my first periodic maintenance after 20000 km driving + some recall work + some problems. I will have to check what they have done by daylight tomorrow or this weekend.
While picking up the car I saw this beautiful Grenadier from the cycling team, with a German number plate!

Yes, my dealer is a Mercedes dealer ... you feel every time the lack of interest of the employees in that weird car, apart from the commercial guy.
But the head technician is always nice with me and answers my questions, and the guy at the reception too.

So, what did they do (according to the work order):

Maintenance actions:
  • screen washer fluid: 0.5l
  • antifreeze blue: 0.5l
  • motor oil 0W20: 6.5l
  • gearbox oil "Gear 9 75W90": 4l
  • oil filter
  • measurement of tires indent depth: 8mm
Maintenance action declined by me:
  • airco filter (airco didn't work when I received the car, only repaired in August, and not used)

Recall actions done:
  • check front control arm: all OK, right type
  • coolant hose clip: mounted
  • battery conditioner (plastic) plug: mounted, not glued (I asked that, and I already removed the original one for later usage) + sticker "do not use"
  • coolant hose fixation: placed a tie down strap
Recall action NOT done:
  • new owners handbook: not received yet
  • (new / other) fuel label: not received yet
  • speed sensor: not received yet
  • Safari roof rubber replacement
  • Steering return line replacement
  • replacement of control arms: not received yet.
Problems:
  • water infiltration around jack: origin not found
  • water infiltration in NATO plug: origin not found, but technician thinks the plug should be replaced because damaged (oxidized), and when replacing they should look to make it water proof.
Don't ask me more details, because I arrived quite late at the workshop and had no time to ask more explanation.

But, while driving, to my dismay, the warning that I should do the next maintenance was still popping up: next maintenance +20 000 km!

Probably they forgot to reset that warning.

@Jean Mercier water in the NATO plug sounds bad!
Maybe they didn't seal the cable entry properly , or someone didn't do the cap up properly when hiting the bodywork with a pressure washer?

I think it is the sealing! I don't use it, but, they should solve it! Warranty problem!

Re pulling air comp fuse.... I've used/repurposed some of the overhead switches. One is for powering up the Nato (which I use to power my van) and the same solenoid provides power for the air comp.

I went back to my dealer today, to reset the maintenance warning, and ... they didn't succeed in resetting it: therefore the maintenance warning is still popping up, now at 19075 km, and going down of course, highly irritating. They will contact Sweden they said! Hmm, Ineos isn't located in Sweden, but yes the Hedin headquarters! Does also irritate me that for an Ineos problem they don't contact directly Ineos!

And the nice looking Grenadier from the Ineos Grenadiers cycling team was still parked there (see my previous post in this thread), and I looked inside, and saw a nice mount for a tablet:

I take it that by gear oil oil they are referring to the axle oil which is changed on the first service and is sae 80w/90 EP and seems a bit short on engine oil at 6.5L. Should be 7L for petrol engine and 7.5L for diesel engine.
attached a service schedule and oil and lube spec. 👍🏼

I have been begging for months to get that document from my dealer, to no avail. It is the first car that I buy without getting the maintenance schezdule!
