Ah yes - have to love those 'changes of seasons' with the wives. My wife was always too cold - then as soon as the Big M hit, she was too hot - I was the happiest guy in the world when I was able to crank the AC at night below 78!!
lol!! All of us middle aged men could write a book titled “A day in the life of the wife and the Grenadier”.

I’m going to pass I think - driving a G550 today which gives me the off road I want but the interior my wife does.

The down side will be waiting another 4 months after ordering for the color combo if we like the drive
It is hard to beat the g-wagen!

Sure - but not many other cars outside a Ferrari and a few other you drive for 8-10 years and have it higher value
True. I guess I don't really worry about resale on vehicles. I usually buy to keep forever. Thinking about losing 150k to depreciation just makes me sick.

I am surprised the people cross shopping between an 80k Grenadier and a 160k G-wagen. Same with those spec'ing out Rubicons and trying to compare apples to apples.

Have you done a spreadsheet comparison, which will have lost the most in 10 years the Grenadier or the Chav Wagon, sorry G-Wagon?

Truthfully, if you can afford the purchase price of a G-Wagon, I honestly don't blame you. Good luck. As said above, it's not all about resale value though!

Cheers, and I guess and we will see you on Mercedes Forums very soon.

Doesn't that mean it lost over half its value though?
I don't mind even if my car loses 100% of it's value, I hope this will be my last car, unless I or somebody else crashes it. :)
Well, in that case it would also lose almost 100% of it's value

We buy cars outright and keep them about 10 years - and more importantly, maintain the daylights out of them. I’d like to think that at the end if I chose to part ways with a car that there is some value in it.

After riding 2 high end BMWs to worthless it’s a bit frustrating- hence the approach looking for something of higher long term value. The Grenadier i was looking at was $94K - and the residual projections were eye opening.

Even if the Grenadier depreciated to $0 you would still be out less than a $200k G Wagen depreciating to $90. Right?

Yeah, I am having a hard time putting a for sale sign on any of mine right now. The Grenadier was going to replace the Jeep and S-class that have each been around 16 years. Tough when they are worth some money, but you also know they won't lose another dime if the goal is not to sell them.

Base on reviewing the residuals of the G wagon and the projection of the value of the Grenadier - there was a significant difference. The Grenadier is projected at 50% value 2 years in. That could always change as well - it’s just what the financial models and leasing residuals predict.
Even if the Grenadier depreciated to $0 you would still be out less than a $200k G Wagen depreciating to $90. Right?
G wagons I’m looking at are about $165k. In 8-10 years the projected market is mid-$90k so a $75k loss over 10 years. If that was my Grenadier it would have dropped $94K - so it’s not a whole lot of difference- but the point I was making is that they hold the value very well.

I am still a HUGE Grenadier fan - and plan to keep following this forum for a long time. I’ve met some awesome people along the way that I will still keep in touch with and trust me - i will still be drooling over every Grenny I see on the road!

That's my dilemma right now. To swing the Gren, I'll be selling the FJ Cruiser, which I'd like to keep. :(

The upside? I bought it new in 2014 for $40k. 10 years later with 120,000 miles I'm pretty sure I can get at least $30k for it. :)

Hopefully the depreciation curve for the Grenadier will be similar.
