Trump announces 25% tariff on all imported vehicles!

The UK prices have increased to offset the TRUMP tariffs, looks like we all loose out. The man is an utter nutcase!
I guessed we would all be paying to cover the costs associated with anything going to America, it's the only way to keep prices near what people or businesses will pay and not decimate a single large market.

Agree - shame though! All the USA had to do was make their companies competitive, just like the UK. We need to scrap NetZero and make it attractive for business to invest!

– INEOS Automotiveis shielding its customers from US President Trump’s 25% import tariff increases by doing all it can to keep prices in check, the company announced today.

WE WANT TO PROVIDE OUR US GRENADIER CUSTOMERS WITH CLARITY IN A WORLD OF CHANGE AND UNCERTAINTY. UNTIL EU POLITICIANS GET OFF THEIR HANDS AND MAKE A DEAL WITH THE US, WE’RE DOING WHAT WE CAN AS A SMALL COMPETITIVE BRAND TO PROTECT OUR VALUED US CUSTOMERS FROM THE TARIFF PRICE INCREASES.

Calder announced several pricing actions, including:

  • US Grenadier orders placed before April 3 will be price protected, without extra tariff charges at delivery.
  • Prices for new Grenadier SUV orders will be held to a 5% increase. New starting price from $78,900.
  • The Quartermaster pick-up, already subject to a 25% chicken tax, and now with the additional 25% import tariff, will only have a 10% price increase. New starting price from $92,900.
Launched in the US in 2023, the INEOS Grenadier 4X4 provides best-in-class off-road capability, durability, and reliability, with the modern comfort and refinement customers expect wherever they are in the world.

Customer deliveries of the five-seat Quartermaster double cab pick-up, the largest model in the INEOS Automotive line-up, begin in the US this month. The Grenadier and Quartermaster are manufactured in Hambach, France.

North America is the largest market for INEOS Automotive, accounting for more than 60% of the company’s global sales. It is represented by a rapidly growing dealer network, which is set to expand to 40 sites across the US and Canada by the end of the year. I almost wish I could buy a second Grenadier right now just to help Sir Jim/Ineos out. And here I thought I'd never have anything approaching sympathy for a billionaire ever again. 😉
 
So you're saying there are barriers in place to enter your market that aren't tariffs?

Let’s look at other barriers to imports from the poor old USA
- our exchange rate makes US (and other) imports costly
- transport costs over 15,000km costs a lot
- the quality of many goods (cars in particular) isn’t very good so we’d often prefer something else
- we charge a LCT and a GST - shame on us
- our produce is a superior quality so we’d prefer to buy our own if it hasn’t been exported somewhere else
- there is a strong preference to buy Australian Made. How dare we. That said, we don’t manufacture much anymore so buying local has diminished
- I’m sure there are a thousand more.

No wonder Trump is pissed off with us Aussies, we’re just ungrateful bastards really. 🙄

Exactly. It’s so refreshing you see things the same way, and you’re all so invested in Making America Great Again. Wow - we were a little nervous you all would be pissed at us for tanking the global economy and destroying your net worth in the last 48 hours! Hands making heart emoji.

No idea why quartermaster is even made. No chance at surviving in USA market even if starting at 75k. Gladiator starts at 38k and the top comes off. Why bother. Put those funds into Station Wagon Ineos.
Because other countries love it and don't have a chicken tax.

The Australian owned company I work for also manufactures 95% of our products in Australia.
We proudly have the made in Australia logo on our products.
Sadly we are the only company in the industry who manufactures in Australia
Although our main rivals product is largely manufactured in New Zealand.
We obviously use this to our advantage and we are still competitively priced.
We sure as hell don't want the government to force others to manufacture in Australia as we would then lose that advantage.

Some customers don't care where it is made and will buy the cheapest, then replace it often.
Others do care and also love the fact we use fully qualified Australian electricians to build the product.

Let the market regulate itself.

Exactly. It's a niche vehicle within a niche company and that's what it aspires to be. It doesn't require broad market capture like a Toyota model.
Correct... if it fits your needs and you can afford the best in the class, here it is QM. Jeep Gladiator was mentioned at 38k as an option...they can't be mentioned in the same sentence especially if sophisticated quality is spoken of...it was also mentioned that it's roof comes off...wow...when?:D
In all seriousness look past the paint and you will find one of the toughest vehicles on the road and off. I speak from experience, my Trialmaster is now 45k klms old and yes, I have driven the QM and thought like others that it is in a class of it's own also. One journo wrote about the Grens using the Headline: "As Tough as Old Boots" yep!
Take me back to the late 80's early 90's and if the QM was around I would be in. We had the best we could have at the time for the Children, surfboards and push bikes. A dual cab VW Kombi 2lt petrol which was a niche vehicle at the time. I also had a 1969 model back then when Dual Cabs where just different, I would love it now (y)
