Trump announces 25% tariff on all imported vehicles!

I appreciate the Maple Syrup reference. But who/what is TDS?

EDIT: Wait, I found it. Ha. You kids and your acronyms. Cute.
Its actually not cute. It's infantile. When faced with a comment they don't like, rather than engage in substance there is a knee jerk reaction to respond "Libtard" or "TDS" or "Snowflake". It reeks of locker room bravado. Its a symptom of how divided the US has become. Two sides spending all their free time reinforcing their own biases by watching slanted news sources. The massive mind washing going on will be studies for generations, "How did the US get suckered so completely by one selfish narcissist?" The only part of the constitution that remains sacred is the second amendment, all else is worth trading for the benefit of his royal highness.

Archaic, like the Constitution or the Bill of Rights.

Electoral College votes aren’t 1:1 because as you’ve pointed out, it would essentially mean that a few states would dictate the election for the entire country…similar to how @2/3 of Kalifornia is red but the few densely populated areas make it a democratic super majority for years. How’s that state been going lately? Talk about “f’up”.

And using your logic regarding the Electoral College, it’s seems now more than ever it’s needed because about half the country has lost its mind when they think men can be women, require he/him, she/her, they/them pronouns, it’s OK to storm the Capitol or burn down police stations during the “Summer of Love”. Ironic that in this day and age when everyone has a super computer in their back pocket, people appear more stupid than ever (not talking about anyone here, just a general observation)

The US became the power that it is because we basically saved the UK and eventually Europe from Hitler. Once the war was over the US had the infrastructure and resources intact to help our allies. Problem is now 80yrs after the war, the US continues to have pay the most into NATO and continues to have heavy tariffs levied against US products but has not placed similar tariffs from foreign imports. That’s changing and now the world is mad.

I have an idea to heads of the affected countries…drop your tariffs and I bet POTUS will drop ours. Remember these are primarily reciprocal tariffs.

Thinking it’s not OK for the US to do what’s been done to us for decades shows your bias. And that’s fine because you should be thinking about your own country first, but it’s also not wrong for the US to put our needs first as well.

Taxes🤦🏻‍♂️…businesses set up where it’s most profitable for them. Make them pay too much and they find a different home. Fact is these companies also create jobs and that money gets put back into our economy. Rather than worry about who should pay what, how about if the GOV does a better job as the stewards of our money by reducing wasteful spending, fraud and abuse.

How about we stop giving billions of it away to other countries and than get crucified for asking compensation in return when EU countries do the same to countries they give money to.
I tend to agree with a large part/most of what you have said and clearly a large part of the US population have had enough and want change.
That is 100% their right as we know.

It just seems strange to me that Australia has been attacked for some reason.
We have fought alongside the US in every war/conflict since Korea.
The Australian government paid hundreds of millions to GM and Ford to support their manufacturing plants in Australia, they closed them and took the money.

We import significantly more from US than we export to the US so it all seems quite stupid to me. (more than double)
The only difference is we are still going to be paying $34.6 Billion but US companies (people) will now pay more than $20 Billion for the same goods.

I am sure it makes sense to someone but I am unsure how or whom.

Point A: our electoral college is archaic. It was designed because our founding fathers believed that majority of the voting population (white males) were to dumb to make a intelligent choice. Plus the system is set up as a all and nothing except in Nebraska and Maine. So a person could get 49% of the vote and receive 0 electoral votes. Seems f'up. Finally the electoral college number is fixed and will never change, the problem is it doesn't represent a 1 to 1 ratio. For example, According to 2023 population estimates, one electoral vote in Wyoming accounts for around 194,000 people, while a vote in Texas, Florida or California accounts for over 700,000. In reality Texas, Florida and California should get more weight in the decision making.

You have to admire other countries political systems where political groups is not divided into 2 regimes but several groups. Those several groups have to form a coalition to work together. Plus you can call a no confident vote when you feel someone is not following the will of the people.

We support the world because of our decisions to be the main focus of the world. Treaties and agreements were made and each of them put more power in the hands of the USA.

Taxes, we all pay taxes. Good chance if your a owner of a Grenadier, you are in a the upper bracket. We all pay a progressive tax so only a portion is taxed at 39%. My point is, we know how to reduce the tax burden. Close loopholes, make large business pay a fair share and spend less. 10% of the companies in S&P 500 paid no taxes last year. To be considered part of the S&P 500, you need to have a market cap of 15.8 billion or higher
Again, if you think the electoral college is the problem then you are in fact the real problem. The electoral college prevents "tyranny of the majority" where in the entire country would be run by the coastal elites and the preferences of a handful of large cities.

I'm not even going to bother with the tax comments. You clearly don't have a sound grasp on GAAP. I'm surprised that you didn't suggest taxing unrealized gains.

I guess one must consider, in their defense, that it is better to respond to such stupidity with a simple remark of TDS than the really intelligent, childish legally upstanding response made by burning/ attacking Tesla Owners, by throwing bricks and coordinated looting. Oh my, that would be the Liberal Peace Loving folks wouldn't it. ;)

Thanks for complement. Unexpected but welcomed. Your not first person to call me trouble and probably not the last

Why would you expect me to be an expert in GAAP accounting? Are you trying to flex? Also, why would you think Im for taxing unrealized gains? I would be poor if that happened.

I think this thread is not solving anything. It has become a bit too much personal attacks and name calling for my taste. Perhaps I'm guilty of adding to the that, for this I'm truly apologetic. I'd rather have you all as my friends than as my opponents.

I think attacking the Tesla vehicles owned by private citizens or companies is so horrendously wrong.
It isn't their fault the man is a bucket of byproduct
Besides they have already suffered enough owning and driving a Tesla. (or any electric appliance)

It has always intrigued me that the world is full of US brands. Amazon, Google, Apple, Mondelez, McDonalds, Coca Cola, Microsoft, Visa etc, products and services we all use, often daily.

These companies are far more profitable than the car companies and have revenues 50 to 60% outside of the US.

Yet somehow the US is supposedly being badly treated.
