If you lock it or delete responses then delete my profile. This is an extremely important issue and we must be able to have a view on the subject.
If the tariffs are sustained in the UK, this will push the country into recession and I for one will push back against that.
Life is not a bed of roses and we have to take the rough with the smooth.
Well, I hope he does not delete your profile or responses however, I do believe we should just concentrate on Tariff's benefits and disadvantages and not those institutions or individuals that impose them. Hell, who likes government and politicians anyway!
From what I can garner Tariffs have been around a long time and most countries, if not all, levy them so it is probably highly unlikely that we will see them all dissipate. The reasons for them or against them have been debated going on for well over 100 years with no end in sight. I favor Tariffs levied on those countries that manipulate labor, materials, tax rates or any other factor that could wind up in the computation of resale value of the item produced and which, in effect, eliminate fair trade. I am opposed, generally, to levying of Tariffs on Countries that have are Capitalistic in nature and that have free elections. An exception would be if those Countries levy Tariffs against ours then tit for tat I suppose.
Nearest I can tell the first Tariff was levied by England:
The
Sugar Act 1764 or
Sugar Act 1763 (
4 Geo. 3. c. 15), also known as the
American Revenue Act 1764 or the
American Duties Act, was a
revenue-raising act passed by the
Parliament of Great Britain on 5 April 1764.[1] The preamble to the act stated: "it is expedient that new provisions and regulations should be established for improving the revenue of this Kingdom ... and ... it is just and necessary that a revenue should be raised ... for defraying the expenses of defending, protecting, and securing the same."
In the USA we have that stupid chicken tax. I understand it but, believe it to be outdated and in need of modification or elimination. I did write my Senator about this specificaly. Has anybody else written their Congressman or Senator?
