Transmission variance between petrol and diesel

It was accepted wisdom in Land Rover Discovery 3 world, the “sealed for life” 6sp ZF transmission should get a flush and fluid change at no more than about 60-70,000 km and usually would swap the plastic pan with built in filter for a steel pan with replacable filter.

Yes, that's the way to do it, so that future tranny services are less costly.


I have read several reports that extended oil change intervals were being driven largely by Govt environmental regulations.... not necessarily solely by oil technology improvements ...

Meaning govt's don't want as many used fluids <recycled>, as often?
