While we are at pointless banter...

I think the most pointless vegetable in the world is the celery. It serves no meaningful culinary purpose besides a tasting like rain water that percolated through a mud field and that god awful stringy texture.

i find it to be a mystery how people think its greatness to chew on foamy pieces of stringy thread while getting that awful herb note that is uniquely celery permeating their mouth. Its the worst vegetable ever!

My few cents :)
Wife uses it in pumpkin soup, other than that, yes, pointless

I own two electric vehicles (2023 BMW i4 and 2025 Lucid Air) and three internal combustion vehicles (2024 Grenadier, 2008 BMW Z4M Coupe, and 2006 Infinity FX35) and a Dyson vacuum and two dogs and a cat.

As for electric cars, I think its silly that in the US we've allowed politicians and pundits to make the topic of electric cars a political dividing line. I think electric cars are inevitably the future for many reasons, primarily, they generally drive better, they will eventually be cheaper to produce and buy than ICE vehicles, they are cheaper to maintain, they are cheaper to run, they are more reliable, and then the environmental benefits.

The whole range and charging anxiety thing is overstated. Out of all my vehicles the one that gives me the most range anxiety is the Grenadier, especially when I'm towing (come on Longranger get that fuel tank ready!). The average American drives less than 40 miles a day. So if you have a garage or dedicated parking area where you can charge your vehicle overnight, then range is likely rarely going to be an issue. When you do need to take longer trips, either take your Grenadier or just enjoy a coffee and a snack when you are charging back-up after having just driven for 5 hours.

If someone drives long distances frequently, or doesn't have the ability to charge at home (for example they live in a place where they need to find a spot on the street to park), and the electric vehicle would be their only vehicle, then maybe an EV is not the right choice for that person.... yet.
If they become cheap, which the Chinese are seeing to. My problem is that I have small car I use for local trips that would be perfect for electric but I always have the option to use it for long journeys if needed and has been. In that case a small electric vehicle would have been useless. I do all my long journeys with the wife and we only ever stop to swap over driving. I also wonder how long the battery would last as we do keep our vehicles for a very long time.
The other issues are the UK is very tight for space and lots of people aren't able to charge at home and the cost of public charging is higher per mile than fuel. Also quick charging all the time isn't good for the battery.
I do think there is a place for electric vehicles but not to be forced and then be the wrong thing for the buyer.
I knew there were electric car owners on here which was why I asked the question. There are so much misinformation from both sides I do believe in getting all opinions.

Your problem is you identify celery as a vegetable. It is more herb than vegetable.
Solved your issue for you!

I’m so glad you started this! I was kind of thinking of something like this but didn’t know what it should be. I’m totally guilty of tangents but interesting things come up and there I go!

Let’s talk about curling irons, handbags, high heels, mascara, and bras. Discuss.
Omg you opened that door right up and I am just too scared to walk thru it. Sooooooo I won’t type the joke I was going to about the last paragraph. 😉 see I CAN be a nice guy……😎
Does anyone think this is the right approach or are there other things we should do to 'save the world', are you believer's or not. Do you own electric vehicles?
I won’t go into another long post on this thread (see previous posts on other threads), but I own a 2023 Tesla Model S Plaid and love it. Just not as much as I love the Grenny’s. But they each serve their own purposes for me. I was actually anti EV for years until a buddy got one of these and the first time I rode in his, I was hooked!! Fastest vehicle I have ever rode in and owned and that says alot. Not to mention the easiest to maintain. Yes there are pros and cons for everything in life and if you’re anti EV don’t buy one. It’s like the old adage about not wanting a certain tv show or news station on the air, just change the channel and don’t watch. My $0.02 cents…here is “Dad’s Bad Plaid”, yes all my rides have nicknames……🤘

Edit: btw OP, we are barely into 2 pages of this thread and it’s already my 2nd fav and I can see it being my fav thread on this forum. Surprised with all the high level IQ/Mensa people on here no one has thought of this before. Maybe they did and will post an old dead thread. We need to keep posting and bumping this and one day will be so many pages ole Stu will have to end it and start a new one…🤞

BYD have a number of advantages compared to the traditional European and American car manufacturers.
- They do not have a legacy of corporate executives flying around the globe on 7 figure salaries
- They don't care that Soichiro Honda said that in the future there will be 6 car makers plus Morgan, They just make cars.
- They don't have to listen to the (flawed) research from McKinsey who said Diversity, Equality and Inclusion are required to make a company successful (most of us have been heavily exposed to this)
- Their customers would not know a Dana 60 from a Boing 747, or care.
- They don't have to build a car around somebody else's components.

It's not abot the technology - it is the whole approach that will soon make them the world's no 1.
presently suffering from Mckinsey visionary thinking in my part of the world so that comment rings true

I can't warm to them, i see the point if they work for you or the application. If someon owns more than 1 car that can work, but in general I expect all our cars to be able to be used in all circumstances when required. Current costs don't work for most people but that should change. I like the old tech, our old vehicle is from '67, it's very slow, feels fast, got beat at the lights by a knackered mk2 Nissan Micra that wasn't even trying 🤣
We have fast cars that are much nicer to drive but if it were possible I would drive the old one far more.
You also get that certain smell from classic cars. Although one of the wife's sports cars does give off something when you get out after a hard run, and the noise from the sports/old cars we have, it's what gives that certain feel. I don't mean a stupid big exhaust stuck on the mum's shopping trolley or the fake noise on electric vehicles, that's not a good look.
I also felt sick after being in an electric car and they weren't driving stupid, I have never had that before even in a Citroën with floaty suspension that used to make every one else sick.

I have to ask, have you ever road or driven in a “PLAID” version? It’s the 3 motor Tesla (1020hp but when actually dyno’d made like 1141 or around that to the wheels and explains the 0-60 2.1 second and 9.4 quarter mile times), not the normally 2 motor versions, which are pretty fast on their own. However, adding that one extra motor and naming it “Plaid” is a game changer. When you plant your foot down in drag mode get ready for the g-force no bs. It’s crazy, literally like being on a roller coaster!! True story, I have two relatives and close friends i drove them in it and they said they would never ride in it again and all I did was straight line acceleration!!

Another true story, I also have a 1989 Mustang Gt that I poured crazy money into with a brk k us printed/ built engine (forged pistons, best of all internals even used the best studs/bolts via ARP), Kenne belle supercharger, big and better everything. Built to be streetable, but mainly for weekend trips to the drag strip. I can’t even tell you much time and money was spent to get this to low 10’s in the 1/4 mile, and yes that’s pretty fast. But after doing all that I get this Tesla plaid and of course you have to race them right? I knew what was gonna happen but wanted to see it first hand. Well the Mustang got smoked. Badly. Like all other vehicles at the track (Hellcats, new Zo6’s, Zr1’s, Shelby cobra’s, you name it, some stock & some with bolt ons but didn’t Matter this plaid has never lost a race and if I am being honest there haven’t even had a close race with it, no doubt there are faster cars somewhere but will need to do 9 second flat 1/4 or 8’s and that is rare where I am)(I’m sure someone will post this or that car will bet it but guess what those cars are millions of dollars and doubtful they will ever be taken to a racetrack). Funny thing is the track is almost 2 hours away so we always trailer the Mustang when we take it (we, me and my sons or best friend, sometimes my car building guy goes) and after one for sure two 1/4 mile runs it has to sit and cool down before it can do another run (you know the drill hood up, maybe bag of ice on top of some special clothing to lay on he engine not burn up etc etc). However, the Tesla we just drove it up there a/c blasting the entire time even when racing (Mustang a/c removed altogether for weight reduction and more engine space). It’s not even a competition. The EV’s get bad reputation for several things that I debunked myself as an owner (driving 2 hours, racing, etc and never lost all its charge, didn’t recharge until we got back home later that night; they catch fire easily, it’s actually ICE vehicles that catch fire like 10000% more frequently than EV’s, google that one if you don’t believe me, etc). It’s so convenient to just drive around do your business and never need to stop at a gas station and just put it charging when you get home. Another misconception is it will raise your electricity bill sky high, nope $75 a month extra IME.

Now saying all that you can see I love my Tesla; however, now that I own 2 Grenny’s, they have surpassed the Tesla in love and daily use. The only down side is the gas stations now see me much more often!!🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Btw, this is not a EV vs ICE post. I have both and love both, but will admit the Grenadier is top dawg in my house right now.

Your last statement is why I brought up electric vehicles. Not.to argue who is right or wrong, just to get people's opinions and thoughts.
What I do find funny about all your posts is after saying how amazing your Tesla is, it's the old fashioned Grenadier that is your favourite, you own 2 and have a QM on order. Electric vehicles in general seem to be 1 trick ponies.
Living in UK 1/4 mile drag strips aren't a popular sport, we have narrow twisty roads so a small sports car is more fun. If you go too fast speed cameras will have your licence in no time.
No, I have never been in a Tesla and genuinely do not like the idea of such instant speed. I have got a Porsche experience at Silverstone for next year and it's the car control stuff I look forward to rather than the drag strip they use for the electric vehicles. When the wife did hers she didn't do any fast driving just car control.
Funny story, when she got her car she had a diesel Mondeo that would do over 50mpg all the time and she asked the sales guy what mpg she would get. He explained people don't drive them for that but may see 28mpg.
She generally got 32 out of it and into the 40's on long runs. She moans it makes her feel sick when I drive round corners too fast in it. Not including the classic it's now our oldest car at 12.5 years and not on 50,000 miles. She went from that as her daily driver to a fiat Panda 4x4 twinair 😱 It does make a good/weird noise, not sure if you ever got them over there in the fiat 500?

I am also retired and getting older and the speed thing isn’t as fun as it use to be. Yep say it ain’t so…..I can’t even argue with ya…..”What I do find funny about all your posts is after saying how amazing your Tesla is, it's the old fashioned Grenadier that is your favourite, you own 2 and have a QM on order.” I truly look forward to getting behind the wheel of the Grenny’s. Just wish it had the “summons” feature the Tesla does. For those that don’t know (you have to have the upgraded version), but if I am at a neighbors house down the road (it does have its limits) and I’m too tired (some say lazy 🤷‍♂️) to walk all the way back home, I can just pull up the Tesla app on my phone and hit “summons” and she will back out of the driveway on her own and drive down the block to come pick me up & bring me home. Now that’s a cool party trick that none of my other rides ever could do!!!!

I'm not sure if that would be legal in the UK yet ?
But as you say 'lazy', UK is already heading the way of the US on obesity.
