Well, just had bonfire night in UK, lots of fireworks and bangs. Cats aren't great fans but getting used to them over the years. What celebrations/rituals do.you all have?
I like what you did there! Keep it going OP!!

We have the smashed window ritual in San Francisco
.park your car and forget to leave it unlocked - a window will be smashed as a reminder that you need to leave cars unlocked... 😁

..
I have a buddy that use to go there EVERY summer for like 15 plus years and he hasn’t been the last 2 years and says may never go back. So many beautiful cities have been ruined in the last few years. Sad but true!!🙏

No one wants to see naked old people, it's not right. I've never got the public nudity thing 😱
They are mostly young people. With McDonalds and KFC bodies.

Okay this can be a subject with a deep divide, especially on Reddit — where the threads about it are incredibly entertaining. And differences are often a bit generational but not always — >

TEXTING vs CALLING — which, why, what, when…? And I’m curious to see where people land bc it’s pretty much guys here. I feel like being monopolized on the phone may be more of a gal thing..?

I hate phone calls, and I truly mean *hate*. Cannot stand. I’m happy to text about everything. Every. Thing.

Don’t call me. Text me. But don’t send me a text saying “call me”. If you need me to call you, text me and tell me why I need to call you so I can figure out a good time to call you based on what you need.

Inevitably though, when I call I quickly realize that what could’ve been accomplished in 2 short texts is now turning into a 45 minute phone call bc someone wants to talk at me. Not with me, just at. And then they always wonder why I never answer my phone.

And voicemails? Against the law, unless you’re a doctor’s office confirming an appointment or something.

Ok now post your phone number so we can all start texting you!!😉😎

Sorry forgot the question. I am in agreement with you. I prefer texting, which surprises me as to me it’s usually the younger crowd that likes to text. 🤷‍♂️

No no no no &.......NO!
A phone is to ring people, quick conversation rather than continuous text messages, no ambiguity, you can here tone of voice if joke or not. I can see who's calling so if busy can ring back or just tell them, just be honest and straight with people. Emailing and texting has ruined my job and many others say the same. Phone calls are more personal and help develop relationships. Emailing and texting makes people more lonely.

Agree to disagree. I’m retired and have been so for a few years now, so can’t say anything to the texting ruining your job part. Yes texting is less personal but she asked which you prefer. I prefer not to jabber jaw with someone on a phone for 15min or an hour. That’s not personal either. I’m old school, if I want to talk to someone I’ll go visit face to face or let’s meet for lunch. That’s what we have lost over the years the in personal experience. So if I had a choice it’s in person communication, if not then texting. Btw, emojis can tell you what you need to convey instead of a voice. 🤷‍♂️👍😁 see I’m happy……🙃😎

I agree meet face to face is better still. I can do a 2min phone call, get far more done and just be honest and say, can't chat, too busy. I'm not very good at knowing which emoji's to use and worry may get wrong. On another thread someone was offended as the incorrect emoji was used accidentally. At least when I offended someone I'm talking to I know I'm doing it.
Everyone is free to have there preferences but the problem is if we all have different ideas we end up not communicating at all.
My phone doesn't make any notifications for text or emails, if you ring it makes a noise but not between 8pm & 8am as I don't want to be disturbed. If it's urgent people I care about have my landline number.
🤡🤖💩 not sure what that means! 🤣

Are you being serious with this “On another thread someone was offended as the incorrect emoji was used accidentally”? If so wouldn’t surprise me! There are “Karen’s” lurking everywhere these days. Honestly I still get the emojis wrong sometimes and my kids usually have to explain it to me, but I just like hitting the little emojis!!! 🤦‍♂️🍆oops now that for sure isn’t the right one!!! 🤣

In fairness it was on a very serious issue so they were right to be upset but my point is it was a slip of the finger giving a laughing face instead of sad. But some people nowadays are easily offended so we all walk on eggshells. I can say the wrong thing in person deliberately and get told off from the wife but it's always deliberate.and done as a joke.

It’s understandable if that particular thread was about about Spain and the loss of life and a particular persons vehicle. as the person in question was quite emotional I guess

I do get it. I have lost plenty of loved ones and even more battle buddies, but I personally wouldn’t be posting about it anywhere online. That’s just me though. I’m usually a very private person. Some are just more open and want people to know. There is no wrong way to grief. Hope it all got cleared up for both sides. 🙏

This is why the subject is so interesting to me — and sometimes funny to me, bc people can feel passionate/adamant about one side or another. If you read threads about it there are a lot of people who are almost offended that people still try to just *call them out of the blue*, no warning whatsoever (lol!).

Many are like you in terms of their jobs though — make calls if they’re more appropriate or when texts won’t translate.

You mention above a quick convo via a call — and that’s not a possibility for me, so I think that’s a big part of why texting is such a relief! People will *not* let me off the phone — and I mean hour long calls when I’ve said I have to go 4 times. I need remedial training on how to get off the phone!
