mechanic expresses poor support from Ineos and yet he still wants to buy one?

Did he drop any hint of Ineos working on fixes? Or is the Ineos side of things also a blackbox for the dealership?
He's a mechanic, so isn't daunted by the bugs. He sees the vehicle for what it is and thinks it's great. Said he'd ping Ineos again and see if he can help move things along to resolve my particular issue. The main frustration for him sounds like the typical one of Ineos not getting on the job and fixing known problems.

I had mine back to the dealer again yesterday, I've taken to carrying around a scanner so that I can clear the check engine light after fueling. I'm a cruise control enthusiast (no speeding tickets in 30 years), so I don't like it when it doesn't work. But, I often get other alarms after clearing the fuel code. This time around, I had no check engine light, but the cruise control still didn't work, and the odometer read a rather mysterious 0-0-0-0, and stayed there. The tech said that was a new one, had to do a full reset.

Also, I'd had it in previously to fix the fault with the fuel light, it was reported as having been fixed, but the tech that came out yesterday informed me that mine was too new, and the fix wouldn't work for mine, so they didn't actually do anything. I'd have to wait to get it sorted until IA issues the fix for mine.

We talked for a while about all the bugs and weird things on the IG, and he expressed a lot of frustration with them and how poorly they were supporting their product. Then he told me of his plans to buy one, absolutely and ASAP.

I think everyone has different tolerances for aggravation, and there certainly is plenty with the IG, but I'm fine with it. I'm getting quite adept at running my scanner anyway. But, I certainly agree with the price of entry, there's an awful lot of fiddling to fix all the software bugs required here.

When filling the tank the pump automatically clicks off when full.
If you then continue to add fuel it registers as overfill anad alarms.
I guess they use the check engine light warning in yellow, not red as they ran out of lights.
Simple fix is not to keep trying to squeeze more in.
Over a year ago I stopped doing it and haven't had the problem since.

I wish that were the case with my vehicle. I've never once filled beyond the auto shut off on the nozzle, yet the alarm goes off about half the time. Count yourself lucky.

Plus, unlike the rest of us, he has full access to the repair manual!

Or, and just hear me out on this, we kidnap him and keep him in our basement? “It puts the service manual in the basket or it gets the hose.”

Anyway, back to the thread-I think it's pretty safe to say that the IG has more issues than any vehicle I've purchased new, ever. I'm happy to tolerate the annoyances and the odd trip to the dealer, as I pass their way from time to time anyway, they give me a loaner and I go about my business for the day down in Seattle. As long as the thing doesn't leave me stranded, all the rest I can live with. I can say with some certainty if my wife had bought one of these, she'd be ditching it and going back to her Volvo in short order.

Hmmmm, I think you need to preface the above with, “In my case,“, as that certainly isn’t the case for most others, myself included.

Drove past Ineos Seattle on 99. Wanted to check out the lot. Anyways, as I was driving towards I-5, their was some one taking a Inky black for a test drive. Hopefully, their will be another one in the area. I feel momentum is building at least here in the states. The number of Facebook posts of ppl joining the club is picking up.

Right, as I said in my post, more issues than any new vehicle I've purchased new, ever. I wouldn't presume to make blanket statements about the entirety of the automotive world.

I like the guys there. Mike Jones was the guy who sold me the rig, really like him, and he's the one who organizes the group trips. If you don't know, EBMG does grenadier meets with off-road driving for free, ticket to entry is a license plate holder from them. I haven't had time to join one, but I think it's pretty cool, plan to in the future.

Listed at $67K wow... From $100K with only 7K miles.
There's no incentive to buy a used one right now since they are readily available on dealer lots

Late to the party, but the OP seems to have a lot of issues, but I'm not sure how many are real problems.

Noises, vanity mirror, too long of a rack for the truck, small gas tank, and bad MPG? Seriously? I have zero clue after almost a year what the MPG is. The seals and leaking, I get, but WAY too much 'glue'(?!) mentioned. Too tall- yes it's tall, it does fit into garages, it isn't that much taller than my Tahoe. Not enough creature comforts for the price? Didn't you research it before you bought it? $100K, I guess you dragged it through the parts catalog and even bought too big of a rack.

Depreciation? Drive it off the lot and cry. Doug Demero, the Cars&Bids guy just had a 60 minute special about how car values are dropping. Not the total dynamic as the IG, but the overall trend is there. This was never going to be a short term vehicle for me. My time horizon is a decade, maybe two.

Yes, $100K, or a even a stripper model at $75 is an investment. It's a first year model from a frickn Chemical company- like I've said for years- this is not a rational decision. That is what I tell people. I wanted it, so I got it. THe last new car I bought was a 2003, and my trade in for the IG was 9 years old. I've made good decisions for a long time so I can take a flier. Your tolerance for risk may be different.

Are there a lot of stories about odd things, yep. Welcome to the internet. Will the car turn out to be a lemon? Not that I'm seeing so far.

If it all goes sideways and they stop selling them, or they turn hot and we are cool OG kids, or it ends up as the BMW M-Wagon - who knows.

It's early days. I don't notice it anymore, but I drove the family up and back to Vail on Saturday. My family was getting a kick out of all the people walking past it or in cars craning their necks to see what the heck it is.

I hope everyone enjoys theirs as much as I enjoy mine.
