I’m thinking of waiting to see how the OEM gas tank skid plate (or is it just a ‘cradle’?) holds up. I believe Scott Brady (Overland Journal) will have more to tell us about that when he speaks in Moab…

It looks pretty light to me, Bill. I wouldn’t want to put the truck’s weight on it.

Please ask Scott if he’s going to record his remarks - can’t be there but would love to hear what he has to say.
Scott’s brief presentation was not recorded, but I have seen a video ‘podcast’ featuring Scott discussing Africa in the Grenadier at length. If I come across the link I will post it here.

PS I have ordered the gas tank skid plate from Rival. Thank you for the insight about the OEM installation.

I've personally talked to two people who got punctured gas tanks from twigs and minor branches getting through the gas tank protection. I think this is a really important protection for my peace of mind.

So i got the rival gas tank skid plate. Its incompatible with the gen1 rival transfer case protection.
They where kind enough to send me a gen 2 transfer case protection. What i don't like is that the gen2 transfer case protection is much smaller in the new design. The issue is more in the fit of the gas tank skid plate and how it is mounted towards the front in rivals implementation.

So i have some choices to make. Put in the gen2 transfer case skid plate and gas tank plate and be happy with it.
Or see if i can keep the gen 1 transfer case plate and consider a different brands skid plate. From pictures it looks like agile offroads should work with the rival gen 1 transfer case plate.

Not sure what i am going to do. For sure i'm going to wait until its warmer before i get at it again.
