Got this impact from a stone the other day. Some asshole cut across the shoulder and sprayed rocks like birdshot.

But then, next day, this crack - which is a good ways away from the impact spot - appeared. Interesting that it seems to be in the same area many other cracks have appeared. Now that I think about it, I actually used the defroster yesterday - I wonder if that played into it?

Your stone hit is about the same as mine. The crack leads off like mine. And in my case, it happened at -6c when the heating was on full (and on warmer days, the aircon puts a freezing cold misted spot on the screen in the same area on screen). So, stress caused by a weakened area does seem to fit.
