oil level check

it takes a lot of time for the engine to check the oil-maybe 20-30 +seconds and it makes a whizzing noise
Does anybody know what is happening then? does the engine check oïl levels in different places ? with different sensors?
I could not find any literature on that
Incidentally , I think mine has no dipstick at all ,i checked carefully after viewing the video on this forum

Are you petrol or diesel, because I thought the petrol B58 engine doesn't have a dipstick. Whereas the diesel has an inaccessible dipstick

It's the way of many modern engines unfortunately.

When you do the off road oil level check it will increase engine RPMs, if that is the sound you are talking about; and yes, 20-30 seconds is about right

Are you checking it frequently enough to matter?

The off road oil test includes increasing engine RPM, and I wonder if it also checks pressure (and change in pressure) at the same time

Question so:
I suppose there is only one sensor
at about 25% of the video ,we see the sensor. Surprise :I would have thought the sensor would have been located somewhere in the oil sump, but it is in the overhead block!! How then can't it measure the oïl level?

I think you're referring to this image at 2:38? That is the oil sump but the render of the engine is shown upside down.
I have added a pic of the oil level sensor from my B57 Grenadier. It is located next to the oil sump drain plug.

Where is the dipstick on a B57 and can it be retrofitted to the B58? Is it part of the oil pan?

I can learn to trust the sensor to check the level but I'd like to know the condition of the oil between scheduled changes to head off any issues.

Left side of the engine just rearwards of the oil filter housing. Most recent post that located it is here. Also in that post is some non-scientific comparison that suggests the dipstick is near enough to accurate (when the engine oil level is full) to be able to use it as a backup to the sensor and measurement routine. Unaware of it remains accurate at lower levels. Would depend on the sump (pan) that is installed.

It appears to enter the side of the block but tricky to see the bottom of the tube.
