Added Garage Opener to the Grenadier

During COVID(no comments on COVID please) when we were allowed out to go on walks around the neighbourhood, I noticed quite a few cars with garage remotes on the dash, attached to the sun visor or just sitting in the centre consol. These were parked on the street outside the relevant house.
Crazy how many people don't even think about it.
The other significant problem most people aren’t aware of is that you don’t have to be parked outside of your home to be at risk because most people keep their registration, or some other documentation that has their name and address on it, inside their vehicle. Anyone that can get inside your car automatically knows where you live.

Steal a remote (or clone it), take a pic of the registration, insurance card, mail, etc…and they can hit your house at their convenience.

It is quite common here in Australia for thieves to open a car parked in a driveway or carport, use the garage door opener to get into the house and then steal the car keys that are on a hook or in a bowl near the house door.
This could be avoided if the garage door remote only works when the key is in the ignition and turned on.
I welcome any idiot to try. If they are dumb enough to break in to my car to press a button to come in to my house through the garage. Well good on them, because if they open the door to the house they will be met by a very silent 100Lb Doberman and an 85 Lb Dutch Shepherd. And both of them are very happy to give tooth kisses to any fool stupid enough to think it was a good idea.

The integration is really cool. I took the easy way out and 3D printed a black sleeve (essentially a small box with one end open) for my small garage door remote and double-stick taped it in the same spot you used. It blends in as it is black and blends in with the aux switches. That way I can take the remote out easily if leaving the vehicle parked for a while, and to change the battery. I'm just not as confident with the electrical work to do a permanent install.

As another alternative which may be common sense to some... I've never used siri but since it needs to be initiated to use carplay I activated it for the first time ever. During the setup process I gave it access to my garage wifi. You can just tell siri to open the garage and yeah... it opens.

Yes,
Here in Australia we don't have registration papers anymore as it is all electronic.
Cops have number plate recognition cameras and know if your vehicle is registered or not just driving past.
Third party insurance is a compulsory part of registration so we also don't need proof of insurance.

However I am sure if you look through glove box and centre consol there is a good chance you will find something with an address on it.

Dogs are the best protection for house and family.
They work when you are asleep or taking a shower, let alone when you are out.
I have some very aggressive cats

Dogs are a good layer of security but ideally incorporated with VPN, cameras, lighting, locks, firearms, etc…

True security has to be multi-layered to be truly effective🤙🏼🤙🏼

I’m in Canada, we shoot an intruder we end up arrested it’s fucked up
Arrested until they figure out you were in the right or that you don’t have the right to protect yourself with a firearm (self-defense)?

Getting arrested in the US until they figure out if it was actually self-defense is a thing here also.

One guy I knew from several years ago woke up, saw a guy climbing into his window with a rifle.
He shot and killed him.
Turns out the guy was climbing out the window and the rifle was a tree branch in the background.
He ended up being charged with murder and spending a few years in prison

Yes I agree
For me security needs to be assessed and dealt with.
I think if I decide I need lots of security and firearms I would just move to somewhere better to live.
Quality of life is the most important thing.

What you need now is a small DC to DC buck converter to take the place of the battery…and powered from ignition.

Then it would be off when the truck is off.

That was currently the method I was using except our service is hit or miss right now.... lol So we wait a few mins or more to get in.

Haha! I got a fob anyway and stuck it on the visor. Siri a hell of a thing though, I had been missing out all these years.
