My Subaru windscreen was $1,800 to replace and could only be done at a Subaru dealer due to the vision system attached to it.
My Mercedes windscreen only cost $1,200 but again had to be done at the dealer and took 2 months to arrive.
I am so glad that the Grenadier windscreen is just a large flat piece of glass.
Also glad I always take out windscreen cover with my insurance
Yes I also take windscreen coverage which helps with cost, but can’t help you if you are in Birdsville and there are none in the country

I would imagine that with the cold, heat, corrugated road miles put in the they would have enough flex and expansion/contraction issues that we would have seen more cracked windshields in all of the videos. I trust it was a rock chip.

I thought the Ineos screen was a hefty thick chunk of glass. But any glass will crack given a decent hit.
One of the commoner ways to damage a screen is to allow the metal wiper ends to flick against it when washing the car.
Never happened to me because I take extra care in that area.

One thing I always liked about my LC80 was the windshield. It would take some pretty significant hits and only had one windshield replaced in 150k miles.

There are two major spare parts centres in the world for the Grenadier
  • One in Brussels to look after Europe, UK, Middle East and Africa
  • One in Melbourne to look after the rest of the world.
So I guess you may have to wait a couple of days to a week in Birdsville to get a new windscreen but I would be surprised if there aren't any in the country.
At least any windscreen or smash repair place should be able to replace it and you won't have to go back to the dealer.

Don't see the issue with his comment....

he's one of many people that want a 5L V8 diesel vehicle, that gets 68mpg, has a 260L tank, weighs only 2 tons, tows 5 tons, has 3 tons of payload, has 19 inches of ground clearance, handles like a Porsche, and costs 20k fully loaded...

is that so much to ask these days... jeez
R1T gets close ;)

It is the same with the indicator stalk being on the left for RHD vehicles.
You hit the wipers by mistake once or twice at the start but after that it is not an issue, unless you are really thick.
Providing they turn off again. 😉

The windscreen gives me some concern, only because I have seen the big problems Land Rover has with New Discoveries and windscreens that crack all by themselves even sitting overnight. And then they have to wait on back order for replacements at huge expense.
New Defenders seem plagued with the same issue. Not sure if there's something about modern glass or just the thinness as manufacturers chase weight savings for fuel economy and emissions?

Of course any vehicle can genuinely get a hit from a roadtrain that is inevitable it will happen from time to time. And hopefully because there is really no tech in these screens unlike Land Rover they won’t be stupidly expensive, but with a New Vehicle and current supply chain issues, hopefully it isn’t going to be a common problem and hopefully there will be readily available stock just in case.
If nothing it should be a good test of Ineos' ability to draw down from the spares warehouse in Melbourne and get it swapped out quickly.

I don't think the glass in the windscreen is actually flat, it has a curve towards each A pillar.

I'm reminded when Jeep introduced Corning Gorilla Glass as an option for Wrangler and Gladiator windshields. It would be interesting to know if that is proving a success?

I am right-handed and using a key placed on the left side of the steering column did not cause me any concern. Some people sure get tied in knots over things you can adjust too in five minutes
Correct... Porsche and Defender apart (maybe something more but I don't know) any other LHD cars have it placed on the right side. Reverse situation for RHD, so the key position knows both alternatives without any complaint. I can't see where is the problem. Internet is a fantastic place to get good informations, unfortunately also the place to get exposure talking nonsense...

All potential grenadier owners are ambitious anyway 👍

The steering damper, did they change it from the one he was complaining about? For example, the recent US models have the damper behind.
I did see that, interesting, it may be because of the front diff being off centre and the damper is in the way the R/H drive models, ** edit** after finding some pictures this may be the case. we poor R/H drivers are inflicted with both a footwell intrusion and a lower steering damper.

As RHD I'm getting a inferiority complex ☹

Getting a chipped or cracked windscreen in Australia is not exactly a rare event.
Bad roads and lots of trucks makes it fairly common.
I had a 4" glavanised bolt fall off the back of a ute in front of me and embed itself in my windscreen a few years ago.

And my LHD 911 has it on the left!

This is mine, very similar also with the steering wheel on the wrong side...
