The 70’s are 32.8” and the 75 is 33.8. So basically a 33 vs a 34. The factory BFG’s are E rated and weigh-in at 56lbs vs the C rated 70 at 57 and the E rated at 61-63lbs each. I personally would go with the E rated for the 10 ply construction and higher load capacity. I am likely going to go with the 285/70/17 E rated unless I can confirm no rubbing on the 75’s.
Has anyone confirmed fit and no rubbing with the BFG 285/75R17 size and stock steelies (+no lift)?

I’ve seen these on a couple trucks but they had 0 offset wheels. Purportedly no rubbing when loaded & off-road.

I can confirm no rubbing on BFG KO3 (E rated) 285/75/r17 without a lift on stock alloy (don’t have the steelies) on basic mountain off road trails. Also, not the most important thing, but they look great.

Thanks @bradb622! Good to know on the trail performance and looks are an important factor, no doubt.

I believe the 17” alloys are the same offset as the steelies at +55mm. Might be the difference of 17x8” (alloy) vs 17x7.5” (steel). So should approximately come out in the wash on “installed” tire section width placement in the wheel/tire space envelope.

Aside from the rubbing factor: How does it drive? Ride, acceleration/braking, transmission behavior, handling?

Ive got those ko3 tires close in size - 285/70R17.

I’d say they are a little more “squishy” compared to oem size ko2. But not a huge difference in ride, just more, I’d say, compliant.

For comparison these are Goodyear Duratracs 255/80r17 on stock steelies, no lift. Great fit, no rubbing.

I love the size. These are also 255/80R17 on stock steelies. Easier steering, less noise, and better wet/snow traction IME. Falken Wildpeak A/T4W.

They look great - what did you have before the Falkens?
Stock BFG KO2. Several people smarter than me told me that in the Pacific northwest I will hate KO2s but probably like Falkens for our warm soggy winters here. Ask me in a year if I still love them. Lol. I'm also glad I went narrower and taller for those reasons.

I have the AT3W and they have been awesome for PNW for last 5 years.

> why they gave it a puny tank range still befuddles me

I agree. But here in Germany also filling this puny tank costs already a fortune to fill at $9/gallon: about $177. ?
If anyone really wants a 35” tire I hear that 255/85/17 ‘s will fit without any issues. The width on these is 10” approximately and give you that defender slim look that is seen on a lot of 110’s. Micky Thompson makes these. The actual size is 34.6”. These are also 10 ply, thus, strength should not be an issue.

Curious about the speedo how far off it has become?
I would imagine ~1mph slow at 70mph.... with a 255/80/17 I'm almost dead on speedo vs. GPS speed (I show 74-75 via GPS at an indicated 75 on the speedo)

oh that is great then, Dumb question number two does the MT 255/85/17 fit on the stock steel wheels and still work or do I need to buy a set of OWL wheels?

Plenty of folks are running 255/85 on the stock wheels

Have you noticed any gearing issues with increased size? Thinking of doing same tires. Appreciate feedback.
I have the 255/85r17 Mickey’s. You will notice a slight difference on gearing but with 8 speeds and abundant torque it isn’t a problem. I have towed 5,000 pound boats up mountains without an issue.
