Land Rover is no more

That inspires confidence….. 🤣🤣

Are we buying from opposition or are we actually continuing the path beaten?

I do laugh when JLR is still british even if owned by Tata
Well, Grenadier is British owned, but pretty much none of the development or manufacturing occurs in Britain

CarBuzz isn’t the world’s greatest journalistic source, but I thought this was an interesting article. LR

Some might know Mr. Wolfgang Reitzle from BMW and Ford and others. He once told Jürgen Schrempp, former Chairman of the Board Mercedes-Benz, on a mountain trip that it would be absolutely stupid and it will create a lot of damage tothe brand to take "Mercedes" out of the brand name in favor to DaimlerChrysler. Because that is one of the most valuable names in industry and the customers stick to that name.

He was so right.

Cheers

Arguably Land Rover has been dead for about a decade and this is just the final nail in the coffin. JLR took it way too far in the "lifestyle accessory" direction (especially under Tata) and ended up making glorified commuter cars for the suburbs. Which it sounds like they're going to keep on doing.

If you suck the soul out of your brand then it will disappear into mediocrity. Even the lifestyle buyers will eventually move on if the brand no longer seems authentic. The appeal of driving an off-road vehicle to go to the mall, take the kids to school or whatever is that you could take it off road if you wanted to. If that no longer applies then you might as well buy a Kia.

100% agree, and Jaguar was synonymous with sporting cars not run of the mill family cars - their future destiny

I don’t understand this move at all, it’s honestly so stupid.
It’s like BMW removing the roundell from the new XM vehicle because they want that to be its own brand. Not realising that people buy BMW’s for the prestige that comes along with the badge - not the X or the M.

Mercedes are a shining beacon of how to do branding right. Even if AMG is a popular sub brand, they still badge them as Mercedes-AMG because they understand the brand equity that the three pointed star carries.

Other than people who follow the car industry, no one knows that Jag & Land Rover are the same company, the same as Hyundai & KIA are.
I can honestly see this move backfiring completely & burying them further, rather than the uptick in sales that they’re hoping for by making each model the brand…

Oh well, RIP Land Rover. Long live INEOS.
