UK & Ireland Insurance in the UK

@MacBlooby
I thought the Grenadier came with advanced anti-theft alarm and an immobiliser? and that just a tracker was required for some insurance companies?

It does, I went for “belt and braces” on the basis that it would be so desireable!

Can we determine the category of what is fitted as standard ? The dealer is unaware, I will be talking to them face to face on Monday and request definitive answer. NFU require Cat 2 Thatchem fitted at time of any theft or attempted theft to be covered. not finished with this as its bugging me as to the inconsistency

We’ll all I know is it’s not Thatcham approved

Basically every car manufactured for the UK market after 98 has a cat 2 immobiliser but the Ineos is not on the list. The immobiliser will be CAT2 it’s just not listed. This pissed me off, Ineos should have got their admin in order with Thatcham. Luckily I was able to get direct line to move a policy I had on another vehicle then I put that vehicle on a new policy.

It is not Thatcham, they sent a letter out as it was supposed to be originally

Hi joejet

We’ll come straight to it. Our website and brochure have always referenced a Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser. But this is not correct.

It’s a mistake on our part, and for that we’re sorry. The good news is that your Grenadier is fitted with an advanced anti-theft alarm (complete with independent power source) and immobiliser.

This is an important point, as it may affect your insurance. So, if you’ve already obtained a quote, we’d advise updating it. Select ‘manufacturer-fitted system’, as opposed to ‘Thatcham Category 1’. This will ensure you have the correct cover for your Grenadier. As always, if you have any questions regarding this update, then please do not hesitate to contact Customer Services.

I agree with the CAT 1 system but I suspect it’s not a cat 1 alarm but is a cat 2 immobiliser.

Let’s see when Thatcham update their lists

Not any further forward with current security system compliance, as no one knows or are not saying. However one of my issues concluded, I declared the current cost of replacement vehicle which took me over the 75k threshold, requiring cat 2 immobiliser, others appear to have stated what they paid for the vehicle as we know this is 10k less than the new current price, I reduced my total by removing the bolt-ons like roof rack awningand lockable wheel cover etc, which I doubt would be replaced under insurance anyway and hay presto drops below threshold for immobiliser requirement. This was not fiddled to make it fit. Use the configurator to get your new cost and be honest as others can check true cost also. that took best part of a week to conclude, Happy motoring.
Not all insurance companies have same criteria and thresholds.

This is the reply from the Regional Aftersales Manager UK, MENA INEOS Automotive to Grange in Edinburgh requesting specific clarification as to the nature of the alarm and immobiliser fitted, together with detailed user operating instructions:

"For the Alarm classification - Please refer to the Portal Bulletin (as described in the attachment). This best describes how we communicate the subject back to customers."

It's no wonder the agents are despairing at times with this sort of gobbledygook response as helpful informative support!

I have requested a copy of the said Portal Bulletin.

I was hoping that the full CAD IT system would get us direct access to things such as these "Portal Bulletins", as well as the more technical Service Bulletins.

Herewith a copy of the Portal Bulletin relating to the Alarm system - unfortunately no specifics regarding what has actually been fitted as to the supposedly Advanced Anti-Theft Alarm & Immobiliser, nor any user instructions as to ferry travel, child/pets etc.

Be interesting if IA alarm turns out to be of a higher spec that a That. Cert. Cat 1 alarm.

more chance it being kitCat standard
If it is an "administrative" error, and the alarm is up to spec, you would have thought they could get certification retrospectively. I wonder if, going forward, they change their supplier.

I could not get Admiral to quote despite having a multi-car policy with them, the agent on the phone couldn’t tell me why and said he would refer it to a specialist. Both CTM and GC didn’t quote for Admiral either, both sites returned Churchill at circa £340as the lowest cost quote.

Try Amy at NFU ingliston

How does the price go down if you list a second driver? If that's the case, why would anyone "be alone?" Just list anybody else.
Krabby, as we head towards placing our orders at the end of this month USA/Canada, is there anything more up to date that your'e aware of, re insurance for our IG? I'm looking through the forum postings and while there's lots of insurance discussions from England and Europe, nothing that I can find for us here in the USA.

I'm with Admiral but on van insurance.
