In my neck of the woods you could have a MB G-wagon multi-car pile-up, and we have traffic jams of BMW X series. I was in teh Dakotas, where the nearest BMW dealer is 6 hours away- it’s all Cadillacs as the high-end cars and the only BMWs had out of state plates.

What I’m saying is that at least in the states, it is dealer proximity that is going to drive sales, or drive people away from buying one. It happens to BMW, and they have a history.

Ineos could probably come close to surviving just based on the trucks for their chemical plants and some outside sales.

I like that I don’t end up bumper-to-bumper with other IGs.

To your point, in the SF Bay Area / Peninsula where there's currently no dealer, I've seen exactly zero other IGs. And I'm bringing mine back to Idaho which will shrink the Bay Area fleet by one.

Interesting side note: the only guys who've asked what it is are at the car wash and the gas station. I think the reason is it looks like something you've seen before. A Defender or G-Wagon with a body kit?

Hope they find a Bay Area dealer soon!

There is a Seattle dealer and I have only seen 2 on the road.... and I have been looking... I have seen far more Cybertrucks, Hummer SUVs and even Silverado EVs than I have seen IG. I drove to Bend, Oregon last weekend... I saw ZERO in over 700 miles of round trip driving... and the Bend/Redmond Oregon area is like overlander central, I think it is requirement to have a roof top tent to travel the roads/bring your kids to school.

Even my car friends who are car nuts haven't heard of it... Its an awareness thing.

Anyone know what the build numbers are now?

I’m on pistonheads and there are a number of little-Britain types on there who think the whole project has been an abject disaster just because they haven’t seen any in their little corner of suburbia 🙄😂
I don’t see that many G-Wagons here in UK unless I visit my Mum in Wilmslow or sister in Alderley Edge.
On a return journey to France and back I only saw one Grenadier and no G-Wagons. The G-Wagon is still Mercedes biggest profit maker. (So I believe).
If I didn’t have a Grenadier, I would have bought a G-Wagon

Me? Never, half of the price is the brand name!
I would have bought a second hand Land Cruiser or a new Toyota pick-up.
A used G-wagon would have worked for me, mainly down to it being different.
The new Defender is arguably a great 4x4. Today, at a country farmers show here in UK (Nantwich show), there were countless JLR products but no G-Wagons and only my Grenadier.

Was talking to a family member while driving the IG last night to dinner. IF this is the only year(s) of the IG and it fails, or it goes on for years and becomes an icon, I don’t care. If it fails, it becomes even more of a legend. If it succeeds, I’m in at the ground level.

On the road I noticed somewhat 11 Grenadiers in last 13 months, the first one a motorway near Hamburg, a few around here and near Würzburg. Mercedes G I see almost any week, none of these have ever seen any dirt. There is one older G station wagon for sale since a while offered at a used car sale in the town of Nidda. Original Defender I see frequently and we greet always. To G drivers never.

I was an original Kuhn Order (defunct bay area dealership). My order was then transferred to Rusnak in Pasadena a few months ago.

Yesterday I received a phone call from Price dealership group informing me that my order has been transferred to them. Their new location will be in Marin County (San Rafael) and is expected to be open for business in 1 month time. The representative said he was tracking my Grenadier which is currently in Belgium at the port awaiting shipment along with 150 others destined for the Bay Area. They are expecting deliveries to start coming in over the next couple of months.

Fantastic news for us! I have yet to see a Grenadier in the Bay Area- sounds like that will be changing very soon.

I also received my Vin# it ends in 21XXX

Great news for a Bay Area dealer, and hope they add something on the Peninsula. I preordered mine last August and finalized details with the dealer in Boise in December. We all expected Q3 and then it showed up in early May.

I brought mine to the Bay Area for a month. Very clear view of the road ahead over all the Model 3 Teslas. Only real issue is turning radius and parking. 3 point turns to get into a parking space in a lot.

That is interesting. I got a 2024 recap email this evening indicating fewer than 20,000 were on the road to date. Mine is 19,7XX and was delivered in late July.
They did have to pause production a few months ago.

I think we should applaud what Ineos has done. Let's put it in perspective. Tesla sold 2450 of their first generation car, a 2 seater between 2008 and 2012. Tesla launched model S in 2012 and sold 3000. In four years, Tesla sold 5450 cars total. In 2013 they sold 20k cars. Tesla did not become a profitable company until 2020. So 12 years before they became profitable.

We love as a group to toss around numbers but I wanted to add some color on how well Ineos has done since delivering their first vehicle.

Great perspective there
