The issue is not in the steering, it is on how drivers expect it should steer. Like the Grenadier, my older model Dodge Cummins 2500 is also body on frame, solid axle, front coil springs, with recirculating ball steering, but about 700 lbs heavier. As such, it was built for off-road and heavy duty applications. So, when I drove a Grenadier recently it behaved just like my truck, not like my much more nimble Audi allroad. Two different vehicles, two intended purposes. This is something that needs to be highlighted from the get-go for prospective buyers and casual users.
Very well said.

Well, my 12,500lbs Mercedes Unimog U1300L was most certainly designed for the same purpose if not much more severe duty than the Grenadier, and certainly the Dodge 2500, and it returns to center just fine.

The feel of the steering on the Grenadier was a choice. For whatever reason Ineos or Magna or whom ever felt they needed a super stiff steering stabilizer. The reality is if they hadn’t done this and the truck returned to center like any other vehicle people like me wouldn’t complain and nor would you. But due to Ineo’s decision they have one camp complaining and one camp oddly defending.

Literally the first thing I was told about the Grenadier when I went to test drive it was that the steering is “old technology” so it would be durable offroad blah blah blah. This was a preemptive excuse for a complaint they obviously have had many times before.

Oh, and I have been driving Ram 2500’s/3500’s off and on since the 90’s and have never driven one that didn’t self center the steering wheel. I find it odd that anyone suggest they steer dramatically different than most other vehicles. Certainly they aren’t an Audi Q7 or a Volvo whatever etc etc. But I have never daily driven any of those so maybe I don’t know. All I have ever driven daily for the most part have been ancient Offroad trucks. And non of them have self centering issues.

I came here to learn about the steering concerns (issues) and I’ve learned this site is generally an advertisement of the many many things that appear to be bad design and manufacturing issues. For those of you that have good ones or don’t let the problems get you down—enjoy. Saw a great INEOS commercial during the games yesterday. Absolutely beautiful boxy old school vehicle. I’ll stick with my Ram not an issue in 3 years. Take care.

Well it’s all about flavour and colours, you love it or hate it. It’s your thing or just not your cup of tea. That counts for all of us. That makes it difficult to give you a good opinion. It’s maybe not the wright place to ask an honest opinion.
For that the grenadier, he is taking his place between the Defender (old or new) Toyota, jeep, G-wagon…. with fans and haters.

If the steering was an issue, I would not have bought the vehicle. Please drive one on and off road so you understand what it was designed for. One big tip, from my experience at speed on dirt roads, smooth or corrogated lock the centre diff...hold on and have fun (y)

I was in the same boat as you with only hearing bad things about the steering. Steering isn't an issue for my self and that is coming from a Audi rs3 for the last 5 years , decided to bit the bullet and buy a ineos and did a 10 hour drive which steering was a none issue for myself

We drive a Grenadier and a Power Wagon. Our crawler is a Montero, but with SAS. So we only drive solid axle, triple locked rigs 35-37" tires. The Power Wagon does drive better then the Grenadier, but there are a ton of similarities in handling, turning radius and such. It boils down to your needs and preference. A Grenadier should be "purchased on purpose" not purchased to keep up with the Kardashians. Lets face it, if you do not need the durability and capability it may be a big sacrifice to just drive a bad ass looking truck. For us, we live off road and its what we drive. IFS hell scapes are in the rear view mirror for us....Let me see if I can find that entire driveway of broken IFS parts from one Sierra trip for a group.
