My Pride and Joy before the Gren. 98' 300tdi manual, non abs. Wet weight of 2600kg with no passengers or gear, 10000lb winch, bar work around the whole car, rack, long range, HD axles and steering arms, lockers. It was a tank. I do miss it. However each time I start the gren, there is no regret in parting with it. For me the Gren was the perfect replacement. It is so similar in driving style and as I had no luxuries in the disco either I have no complaints of the grenadier, it is a giant step up. The disco was $45k new in 98, I bought my gren sub $100k. Absolute fantastic value when you compare the two.

I get a distinct Disco vibe when I drive my Gren!

Never owned a Land Rover, but I do have a Defender..! 😂 2019 CanAm Defender.

Loved the 2004 Series II Discovery though.

Brought home this lovely 2024 Fieldmaster in August and parked it next to our 2023 Defender X to see how they got along. A bit of town and country vibe going on? I also restored a 1995 25th Anniversary Range Rover Classic (1 of 250) which is keeping an eye on the other two making sure they don’t cause trouble for each other. I think I’ll have my hands full keepings these guys going as hobbies can both be a blessing and a curse.

How many of you have ever owned a Land Rover product? It can be a 1948 Series I, a 2023 Range Rover Evoque, or anything inbetween. Please answer yes or no and, if you would like to share which models you have owned, please share in the comments.
1997 Alpine White NAS Defender 90 sold in late 2000 for 50% more than I had paid.

1980 Series III Stage 1 V8 Defender 109 Red livery with Safari roof and rack currently own, sold my oldest child to restore it to near new.

LR3

I loved the 1 & 2 so much but the D2 cost a fortune with constant issues. 3 amigos almost always on with both. Replaced engine in D2, gave up eventually.

Still have the LR3 but never was a big fan, its vibe just doesn’t compare to the D1&2.

Always wanted a Defender so the G is everything for me!

2/3 ex or current LR owners... explains why majority are happy to accept some basic issues :sneaky: 😇 don't know better with old habits and all!!!
Exactly… it’s not a binary choice to own an LR or Grenadier it’s more like two sides of a coin or a type of continuum where one prepares you for the other and helps temper both the pain and excitement of dealing with these types of vehicles. Is either brand perfect? Nope, but I’m certainly glad both exist and enjoy each for all their eccentricities.

SO true — never thought of this! I had to learn how to be cool with problems that likely would never be solved with my D1&2, which was hard for me bc I tend to over-research problems, thinking that if I look hard enough I’ll surely find the solution. Um no, the exception is a LR — where everything working is a ridiculous notion.

I love my Grenadier a thousand times more than my Discos, so I’d definitely be willing to accept some imperfections.

Trying to finish a ton of work on the 109 before we move end of this month. Today I pulled the original, leaking, S2 brass & copper radiator and replaced it with a Allisport aluminum version. A little extra fab work, but I did get the original fan guards and shroud to fit. Very thankful this is an ex-military LR as the fan is removable via four radial bolts.

I have a bunch or parts on order with Rovers North for more work later this week.

I used to own a series 3 SWB hard top which I restored and then sold to buy a landcruiser 70 series

I almost forgot. Our daughter has an Evoque. Not sure if that counts.

Yup!
I miss it soooooo much. It was '96 Discovery SD with LT235/85r16 tires, Old Man Emu suspension, regeared to 4.11 with ARB air lockers, ARB bumper with Warn winch. Unfortunately it was stolen and never recovered while visiting Lake Tahoe. I was going to buy another one, but then thought about getting a Rubicon Wrangler or an older Gwagon. I decided to wait on the Grenadier to see what people think and see how the company handles it's debut into the market. At this point I'm 50/50 and waiting another 6 months to see how it handles the shut down. In the mean time I keep checking dealer inventory to see if they have what I would order/buy. I also picked up a '96 ex U S Forest Service Jeep XJ for pocket change with 260k miles that is extremely capable but not what I ultimately want.
