Fender / checker plate question

Originally they were aluminium but I was told they failed the crash test as they could come off and go straight through the windscreen then slice & dice.
They are now made of a composite which is fastened to re-enforcing under the bonnet
I believe they can hold up to 150KG same as the roof.
Not sure what the wings/fenders can hold without them but they are only made of aluminium.

The PTO2s were metal but not surprised they need to change them. I was quite surprised at how weak the wings were on top (flexed a lot when pushed on), and since the plates are factory fit I went with them on my build to get the reinforcing.

I believe the static rating of the roof is 420kg, 150kg is the dynamic load

Yes correct. Pretty sure the wings only take 150kg though
I wasn't taking notes I was just leaning on the grill , with the bonnet open, talking with Tom from Ineos when the subject came up.

On Wednesday Oz time I was looking closely at the checker plate on the prototype and yes Dave plastic but I don't like the fact of pot rivets through the guards/fenders.

at least the pop rivets would make them easy to replace with the deadly, decapitating aluminum ones when the plastic ones break

Yes not a fan either
If they are not properly fitted I will be replacing them with hex drive machine screws

Drilling out pop rivets has to be one of the most boring and labourious jobs in the world. Give me a nut & bolt any day.

Hex head cap screws look much better as they have used on the inside

Yes they do look better but the panels appear to have a recess/well pressed into them to accommodate the cap head and leave a flush finish.

I think it would have to be countersunk for 3mm chequerplate unless you got into fitting spacers.

But nothing totally wrong with a buttonhead.

The definition of "Work from home" could be re-written, once I have my outdoor office with laptop and internet setup on the Grenadier.

BTW I've been looking into starlink internet, but have doubts about stability for video conference calls. Download speed is good but fluctuates, whilst upload speed is poor. I also read it doesn't work when it's raining - fail.

What you’ve heard is not entirely correct. Very very heavy rain will cause lack of signal but normal levels of rain will have slim to no impact.

I’ve used it for teams, FaceTime, etc with no issues. Many of the complaints you see are people that can’t follow instructions which is basically to keep clear of obstructions between your dish and the satellites, in the northern hemisphere this is usually to the north and in the southern hemisphere to the south. If there is a tree, telegraph pole or mountain in the way then obviously you’re going to have issues. What you see on Facebook groups is people that are not particularly cluey as to the concept of a satellite and think of it as analogous to a mobile phone, asking questions like “does Starlink have coverage in x town”.

If you just follow the common sense instructions and don’t have any hardware issues it works very well.
