Gen 2 news?

Dropping mine off at the dealership Monday. $3300 for the replacement. That is a huge jump in price from yours last year.
How much is labor? RDS in Philly subcontracted the labor for $300

Does your car insurance not cover windscreen damage in the USA?

Here (UK) it’s generally included and a windscreen claim won’t affect claim history or your renewal price. Sometimes there is a small excess to pay (£50-100) but not always. Maybe this is the one thing we get right here!

We also have insurance riders on our auto policies - you just pay the deductible. Not every policy has windshield coverage.

Some states require zero deductible glass coverage at least be offered as an option. Glass coverage is usually an additional charge, and also usually requires ‘comprehensive’ coverage (simply put, this is coverage for everything other than collisions, and isnt required unless by your financing/lease terms). Glass claims dont usually count against you, but may have a per year limit. Every state has their own department of insurance so there are a lot of variations, im only speaking generally.

So a person generally has to opt in to comprehensive coverage (which is obviously extra premium) and usually another glass coverage surcharge on top of that. And then it sounds like only dealers can source replacement windscreens (national chains like safelite always work directly with insurers). So if you have a dealer who doesn’t want to bill insurance (i dont think its regulated that they do) it’s conceivable even if you have glass coverage you might have to pay out of pocket and then seek reimbursement from the insurance company.

There should be a huge banner on a FAQ/welcome message to new owners in the US strongly recommending glass coverage lol

Seriously - like an up front warning “get windshield coverage and Exoshield or prepare for the wrath that is to come”

Oof it’s complicated for you guys!
Yeah - insurance, banking, emissions testing, firearms etc etc are all regulated at the state level (or in some cases, like firearms, even at a municipal level for cities like Chicago). Which makes for interesting situations, like commercial insurers walking away from fire and flooding coverage in California and Florida (villain laugh from Wisconsin). But my guess is 99% of the US owners here have comprehensive auto, and MOST of them probably have a rider for windscreen coverage- but some of them might have forgotten to add it if it wasn’t automatically bundled with their policy.

High volume manufacturers have a 6-8 year cycle with a mid life revision. Ineos won't have the sales volumes to justify that. My guess is that you will see parts revisions, changes in accessories and technology changes with maybe engine/drivetrain changes over time rather than generational changes.

Oh, and my replacement windscreen cost £115 via the insurance company. And it doesn't impact on premiums in future years.

I just paid £140 for my Abarth 595C windscreen through insurance. Really annoyed as it's only 2yrs old on 4500 miles. First time I've ever had to have a screen replaced, 1 previous repair. Slight scuf mark on the Grenadier screen from a road that caused 100's of insurance claims due to the 'repair work' done. I'm keen on the idea of screen protection but is it legal in UK?

Gen2 Grenadier will just be incremental upgrades in the same way as the proper Defender was.
