That's the point, you don't have to, if killed in an accident it automatically notifies your next of kin, or something like that.

I got the ‘eCall error’ (amber) warning today. I haven’t used the vehicle for around 10 days although battery indicator was up around 78% (usually sits high 80s/early 90s with reasonably regular use.

It doesn’t sound like a big problem but is annoying. Is this likely to disappear by itself or is a trip to the dealer on the cards? I am told I had the software update at service towards the end of last year.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Mine finally turned off after about 2000 miles.

You can get a dealer to clear it and most likely charge the battery up to avoid it happen again.

I also raised the hypothetical situation that my warranty runs out, the car battery drops below 50% and I'm stuck with an eCall error and need to get the error cleared. The answer was that it'll cost me to clear that error. Not really happy about it, but it's good to know the error does eventually clear by itself.

Simpler to do than to say... Disconnect the fuse indicated below for 20", than riconnect it. It works.

Don't worry it. won't work in Wales as neither the radio or satnav do.
It came on in a Mere I was driving last week for no apparent reason had a loverly debate with a foreigner about weather I had crashed or not he said yes I said no.

Hi, I've tried this a few times and it didn't work, first time 20seconds then for about 40seconds with same effect. I had the engine switched off, should I be doing anything else apart from pulling the fuse? Its a shame the software boffins don't allow this facility to be turned off. Thank you for your help.

The eCall facility in the UK and EU is a mandatory safety feature and as such the option of being able to turn it off by the owner is not permitted. And I also presume that a failure warning light ( along with most other failure warning lights ) is now classed as an MOT failure.

Ignition on or off? Engine running or not? Other conditions to be taken care of? I think that's what @bemax was interested in.
From the picture I would say "off" since the key is not present...

Ignition off. And don't forget that 'sometimes' a warning light/message can be caused by a real malfunctioning... Not always a warning system malfunctioning...
