WAY stronger when mounted to the tubes.

Really? I have Leitner mounts replacing my factory brackets and feel very good about it. The basic factory brackets ultimately support the factory tubes and everything bolted to the factory tubes. So if you trust that setup, skipping the tube and going straight to the source of support with a much beefier milled bracket just seems stronger IMO.

OTOH, the rails themselves from DVA mechanics are incredibly low profile. Very impressive!

Leitner also offers an option that simply grabs the bar.

As passionate Grenadier owners, our philosophy is: “Build what we need first.” Our roof rails came to life because no existing solution fit in our garage.

We’re excited to share more details next week!

Looks great! I'm gonna have to replace my home brew t-slot solution now... Yours is much more elegant.

Does it rest on the factory roof supports too, or just the mounting tubes?

From th pic it appears to be simply a piece of L-track. Not really made for this purpose and much weaker than a true cross BAR.

We designed it to have the tiniest gap above the middle 2 supports so that most of the support comes from the system but it can flex down and rest on the supports depending on the load. It’s very elegant (we love your word!) and optimized to minimum height but maximum load. More to come!!

It’s L-Track, to match the Grenadier, but purpose built for the roof rail application. There are trade offs in any engineering design. We utilize 1/2” Aluminum for strength and rigidity, leveraging some of the roof if needed, versus a “true cross BAR” as you state, which would add much more height with the benefit of more rigidity and better access under the track for T clamps, etc. We aren’t competing with each other, we are solving for different problems! Each comes with an engineering trade off. 👍👍👍

Our engineering problem was to solve for height constraint.
