Moving on to the gutter mount prototyping.
For those who wondered, the gutters have a 10 degree tilt.

Ok.
First proto done.
Need to get a bit deeper with the notch.
Enough space with this setup to actually go for the 50mm shorter DOT150 mounts @Pat-Ard.
Need to allow water drainage.
Good progress for just spending few hours on it.

These are breeding grounds for bacteria, shower in water from one...maybe, but after making my own many years ago and adding potentially 40kg on the roof I've gone for a more civilised form of hot water, on demand and able to adjust temperature.
Joolca, cannot fault it as a portable heater, and will hang off the utility rail….once the van arrives

Super nice fit.
Will try to mount tomorrow morning and then work on tue front ones that need to be shaped slightly different due to the embossment of the roof just behind the safari windows.

Prototype of the foot spreading the weight full depth of the gutter over 20cm width is a nice fit.

Also started working on the most tailored drawer there is. Using the left bottom space with the jack access in the front and a corner cut in the back for cool air flow towards the fridge from behind the rack.

Busy days.

Boot rack is finished and installed.
Few little enhancements to do around securing boxes from moving.

Changed process to the oak pieces, that will function as proto during the first trip before going 3D plastic print or allow milling after.

I also milled spacers to distribute some weight onto the rails, if needed.
They do not meet the allow profile above perfectly, but it is what it is with the trip approaching fast.

Have you discounted drilling through the 80/20 and mounting them directly to the mounting points for the tie down rail?

Not at the moment as I still hope my other 6 feet will carry the weight and therefore can consider these optional. Let's see. Hope too have all parts done soon, so that I can finally load things onto the car and understand physics...

Great prototype/concept. Looks to have no deflection in the gutter. Great work

I made 4 different types.
After tightening it all up, there is a slight wave in tue gutter, but much better than tue ones I have seen caused by “professional” makers.
Time will tell, if this works.
I made 4 additional allow legs that I can add any time for extra strength.

Looks interesting but how does a home made system pass roadworthy laws or insurance?

I actually trust mine more than most of the ones I have seen out there.
Not sure how things are handled downunder, but if you lose cargo, break something, … with a rack you bought from the market, the maker will blame things on you anyways, so it does not make a difference after all.
Take a 50kg rack. Go offroad, which cuts the 150kg into half for most makers. As soon as you pack more than 25kg on top, no insurance or warranty will do you any good.
