For the last 2 days I’ve been unable to connect to Carplay via Bluetooth/ WiFi. Happened once before but connected the next time I started the car. Now won’t connect. Have tried resetting phone etc but no luck. Anyone experiencing this or have any ideas on a fix?

Same with my Android Auto.

Everybody has answers - none of them helps. 🤷‍♂️

Seems to be an INEOS / Neusoft implementation problem.

As much as I hate to play this game in the tech industry.... If it started 2 days ago, was there also an iOS update that happened at a similar time?

Hard reset…

Hold mute button until ENTIRE, screen goes blank. Release, then push again to restart.
Make sure you go until the entire screen goes blank not just the right side, which is a soft reset.

This worked for me just today…

Thanks for all the replies. Got it working. Did the hard reset and still didn’t work. Did a complete reset of my phone and rebooted from a backup and is now working

Sounds like your backup has deleted a new IOS update. If that is the case, in a few days the IOS update will auto install. Be interesting to see if the problem reoccurs. If it does you can eliminate an Ineos issue, but if it doesn't then Ineos takes the blame.

That's what I said: Answers everywhere, none helps.

It is a myth that unchanged software always does the same thing as before.

Even if no update has been made, software and operating systems do not behave itempotently, i.e. multiple calls or boot procedures lead to different results for a variety of reasons.

Date and time change continuously, file systems change as well, free space is constantly decreasing, configurations are changed and/or written, user data changes every minute, connected networks change, log files grow larger and often even status information of an entire software installation is updated based on the results of completed jobs.

And sometimes, timeouts do fire or not, e.g. because a hardware takes longer to complete (happens extremely often with modern solid state memory) or a peripheral device (touchscreen, buttons etc.) is busy.

Not to forget temporary hardware faults or -exceptions.

All these things cause software behavior to be unpredictable - which is one of the biggest challenges in modern software validation.

There are many pitfalls a system can run into and multiple starts never follow the same path.

If my CarPlay won't start easily, I reboot both the iPhone and the Grenadier, before I do any other troubleshooting. This gives me a baseline to start any other investigatons. It normally works at that point.

The iPhone has a nasty habit of latching onto the dashcam hotspot rather than the Grenadier one or Bluetooth has switched itself off, either of which would fail CarPlay. The more wireless gadgits on the truck, the more likely thay are to play up!

So a quick update- don’t think it was the reboot. It was my VPN. My iPhone will not connect with the VPN (express VPN) on. This never happened before since maybe something to do with the new iOS. Anyways, if anyone has trouble connecting try turning your VPN off if you have it on…..

Same with AndroidAuto for what it's worth; I would imagine it is because the vast majority of VPNs block local connections

My Phone had problems to connect via CarPlay if it has been connected via Bluetooth to the car before the CarPlay connection was established.
If so I just switched the Grenadier’s CarPlay of an on again in the IPhones settings.
Afterwards everything worked fine again.
Now I use a MagSafe connection and the problem is gone at all.

I picked up my Grenadier in January 2024. CarPlay didn’t work, at all, wireless or cable. Several attempts to update the infotainment system also didn’t work. Eventually around the time of the hitch software update the dealer got a USB stick from IA UK and that fixed it. I’ve had seamless wireless CarPlay ever since. I don’t even take my phone out of my pocket.

Disclaimer: CarPlay will drop-out now and then, but 2-3 taps on the screen and it’s back in business (even with an active map route).

iOS doesn’t work like that. A backup doesn’t contain the OS itself, and will not downgrade an installed version of iOS. There is a way to downgrade, but it is outside of the user facing backup process.

App development is my business, for what it’s worth.
