What did you do with your Grenadier today?

Today it was definitely a case of NOT going off-road !
Asked the wife to please stick to the black stuff.

Imber village on Salisbury Plain Wiltshire UK - Open only two sessions per year. It was requisitioned before WW2 as it was in the middle of the Army tank training area. 135 residents given 47 days to leave their settlement, that had been inhabited by humans for 4000 years.
They were never to return and today it still has tens of thousands of acres used for military firing . Wierd to visit the still intact church, and mock-up houses for battle practice.
We visited in March this year - fascinating to be able to walk around the remains of village but so sad for the residents who had to leave and although told at the time that they would
be able to return have never been allowed to. Driving over Salisbury Plain ( albeit restricted to the 'black stuff' ) is a worthwhile and rare experience even more so in a Grenadier.

We have had a fair bit of rain over the last couple of days and high tides.
Yesterday all the roads were closed, then open to 4WDS only and finally today open to sensible driving.
On the way into town it was high tide and the water was about 400mm deep on the sides and 200 or so in the centre.
It was splashing up onto the bonnet and hitting the windscreen. I was driving a bit faster as I was only one on the road.
This video was about 2 hours later at 10:50 am so tide was receding.
Pays to have a 4WD around here and for people to understand the difference between a 4WD and an SUV.
A few bits of plastic trim laying around and a complete rear bumper.

Today I enjoyed the first rays of sunshine in 2025. I can say it again and again. I like the vehicle. Also because it's not an off-the-peg vehicle. It stands out from the crowd. Well done Jim.

locally the city grinds our trees up so the gardeners have free mulch and the city gets the rest for the parks.
Same here, though green waste is often tainted with bits of plastic and other rubbish. On mainland Australia last year (Sydney), the council distributed asbestos contaminated mulch to several publuc areas including playgrounds...
I make compost from all the organic matter I collect. As I am permitted to have fire , sometimes it just goes into an ambience device.

Can’t stand glossy black “piano plastic” on the door, so I decided to experiment with Plastidip clear and also tried Plastidip Smoke for the bottom of the door, which I seem to kick regularly getting in/out of the truck.

I’ve not tried this before, it’s an experiment and non-damaging, so I just went for it. They both dry to a matte to satin color.

Some YT videos say to remove the tape before it dries to get a clear line and separation from the unpainted areas but because I was spraying two spots at the same time, I didn’t do that. That also caused the vinyl to pull up in several areas.

Overall, I’m satisfied with the first attempt but it’s not perfect, so I’ll be doing it again. I’ll probably wait till it gets dinged up to get an idea of how many more coats I should apply. I sprayed 4 coats this first time around.

This pic is right after removing the paper, so the extra bits of vinyl, especially by the door handle, haven’t been cleaned up. I wasn’t sure how to remove the door panels, so I just taped everything off. Blue painters tape doesn’t like to stick to plastic car parts. Masking tape I found worked much better. I might try taking the door apart next time if it’s not too much of a PIA.

I also remember seeing a thread about putting something in the ignition key area…like gluing a copper washer, and out of curiosity I started looking through my parts bin. Just for the record, I don’t have any difficulty finding the hole or scratching up the sides (that’s what she said🤭😂) but I was bored, literally waiting for paint to dry.

In putzing around, no joy in finding a copper washer but I did find this…and tried the 3/8” for shitz and giggles.

You have to push it in there and get it to seat but it fits and no glue is required. TBH, I thought the grommet would be too thick to be able to insert the key all the way in to turn on the ignition, but it worked fine.

I’m not sure there’s any benefit to adding something like this, but since you guys were talking about it before, here’s another option🤪
