Does,
The NEW Prado (think it's the 250 series internationally, right?) set for Australia is coming with a $10K price rise over the outgoing model... so the GX here (base model) will be nearly $80K AUD listing price, but, given demand for the new Prado is very high we can probably expect to see the GX start at $85K... because Australia likes face lifted old tech vehicles!!!

$85K for a face lifted Prado is hilarious and you still get the ancient 2.8L diesel, and that 48V "mild hybrid" system - what that is... is a scam!

The Grenadier is just miles apart from the 250 series in so many aspects. The 250 will suit people who want the big-truck look but really just want to mall-crawl - from what I have seen of just about every Prado owner I ever met - its a pretty safe bet 🤭
[/QUOTE

The new Prado shares the same chassis as the LC300 and for many buyers will be the less risky purchase compared to a Grenadier with LC250 available with 7 seats, being more family orientated and dealer access being relatively easy, these alone are bigger selling points over a vehicles perceived and rarely used full capabilities. The 1GD 2.8l diesel is just as ancient as the B68 B67 engine and the ZF transmission has been around for a decade but Toyota has the advantage of being more accessable for diagnostics and parts then BMW, at least in Australia.
There will be plenty of mall crawling Grenadiers there for the Prado LC250 owners to envy. LC Prado owners will have the cars historic trends to benchmark against for resale after 5 years and that is very important to family buyers. The Ineos is still an unknown vehicle and historically in Australia luxury European vehicles have had higher depreciation compared to Japanese vehicles and tend to be more expensive to repair out of warranty.
A bit of a negative comment but the truth is the LC250 will be a difficult vehicle for Grenadier to compete against and will be taking Grenadier customers.

If they stick to the same model range as Landcruiser you will need to go to the GR Sport to get diff locks
That will make it about 35% more expensive than the GX or about $115K-$120K starting price

About 92k for the more off road orientated model with a rear diff lock. Between the VX and Kakadu.

What about when you add a front difflock?
I was filling in some time between appointments and looking at the LC300 and asked the sales guy to price up as close to the spec of my Grenadier
By the time he ran out of fingers he was over $200K

Just like a LC300, no front diff lock; just ATRAC and a rear locker

The GR Sport gets front and rear diff locks
As you can see that starts at $158K

I think this is a dry gully argument @DaveB .
If you were to option up the Grenadier with all of the things that the LC300 GR had that the Grenny doesn’t, then it would probably top $200k as well.

They are specced differently, for different buyers.

I can't see anything much on the LC300GR I would want to add to my Grenadier.

Exactly

lt's great that there's a choice. l've got the new Defender and l would say 90% of these vehicles in the U.K. are what you would call "Mall Crawlers"

l think the Grenadier is the best of the three as you can do anything in it, and the vehicle will still look like it belongs.

For the US market at least, this sounds like bad news/timing for Ineos. 01Aug2023 is the announcement date for the newly redesigned/reintroduced Land Cruiser.

Im assuming it’ll be hard to get one in the beginning but it should be exciting.

Will this affect your Grenadier decision? I guess we’ll know more after the 1st.
The Grenadier is positioned to fill the niche left by LR 90/110 appealing to purist and those who value traditional no nonsense off road vehicle ,its rugged and purposeful look sets it apart from modern streamlined SUVs like LC. Will not affect my decision and those that want to stand out of the crowd.

I've got the new Defender in base specification with the steel wheels.

lt's a fabulous vehicle but after 18 months of ownership l have to say it's not a Defender.

lt's a great 4x4 and l can't fault it's ability, it looks good as well. But it's not a Defender, it's just too far from the original.

The Grenadier is a "new Defender" and so is our 2020 Jimny, except it's a bit too small to be a serious contender.
