Vehicle rejected after 4 months off the road due to steering geometry being unroadworthy!!!

We rejected our Grenadier after the vehicle was deemed unroadworthy 19/12/23 and received refund less £0.76/mile 11/4/24 having been VOR for nearly 4 months.
Water ingress is one minor issue.
Steering geometry design is up the spout. And unable to resolve to be safe within Ineos stated tolerances.

No after sales interaction.

No solution after 4 months is a complete joke.

There is a gagging order on all members of the press internationally and people gifted with the use of one of Ineos’s vehicles.

Disappointing considering Magna design and
manufacture, So much for the bullshit of German or Austrian engineering and French manufacturing.

No parts back up, will not replace a radiator with a locally manufactured hose so they have to steel a part off a showroom car after two weeks off the road.

Oh and by the way if your battery fails you won’t see a replacement for many weeks. Even the batteries are failing.

Door window seals shrink so they might eventually replace them and you guessed it they shrink again. No engineering input as they do not have an engineer in the UK or any other country in the World inputting to re-engineer the parts failure in the first instance to resolve any other customer having no further issues from their incompetence.

Steer clear if your steering is safe to use on a tarmac road which it made for! Do not fall for the bullshit as our vehicle was not fit for purpose or safe to drive on the UK highways.

It took them over a month to collect it after having paid the refund. There is either a big scrap heap of these Grenadiers or some other sucker will think he’s got a bargain.

I had a full engineering investigation arrived out by a vehicle engineering specialist investigator.
Interesting to read as there is a video that has appeared recently on one of the Australian FB groups showing a RHD vehicle having the steering track rod making contact with the stabiliser chassis bracket for the steering damper on full left turns reducing left lock and asking if there is a design fault. It may be limited by adjusting the stop bolts on the swivel housings.

All this we knew before buying:

Brand new manufacturer
Very heavy vehicle
Awful fuel consumption
Odd steering
Sparse dealer network
No mechanics with any experience of working on them
Far more expensive than envisaged
Built by the French (not disrespecting French people on here, but you know what I mean), although better than being built by the Brits of course.

Mine is great, yes a few niggles. I don't want a Defender, Jeep, G Wagen, another DC pickup.

After a month of ownership, most of us realised:
The infotainment system has some great features, but the base functionality is poor.
The HVAC is not well thought out. It does everything it is supposed to, but the first 10 minutes of driving sees you pressing buttons and turning dials like a teenager playing Fortnight.
The fancy car car dealer more used to selling Lambo's and Rolls Royce's isn't very customer focused.
Noise, vibration and harshness is a fact of life.
The average bus has better turning circle.
You will be spending thousands on aftermarket goodies
Somebody will come up up to you at least once a day and ask you about it. You will have learnt to lip read Ineos Grenadier from pedestrians.

You must have got a good one Dave, my steering wheel sits about 10 degrees to the right. But when required I turn the round leather covered thing in front of me so it stays between the white lines on the road.
Shopkeep - my agent centred it and adjusted the steering. Drives much better, suggest when you get the opportunity do the same.

Also heard that the BMW is stopping the production of the Grenadier engines. No wonder they launched the EV so children can die whilst mining metals such as Cobalt.
Try the blatant deforestation occurring in Indonesia to obtain nickel for EV batteries. Quite literally killing the planet even further for EV batteries. How much CO2 released cutting down native habitats... There has to be a better way!

Mine has been running well. Fuel is ok on the diesel but similar to LC300.

The seat stuffs my back still working on the correct lumbar support. Tilt and reach is crap and narrow and footrest intrusion is a design stuff up. But love the truck!

I had my steering realigned by Chandlers, Belton, Grantham. UK. It wasn’t that bad before they adjusted it, now it’s perfect. Which proves it can be done.
The one I test drove had an offset steering wheel. I mentioned it to the dealer who said that it was an issue on earlier models and a fix was available but they hadn't got round to applying it to the one I drove yet. It shouldn't be an issue with new builds as they will have the correction by default. I met someone from Chandlers at the Eleveden get-together. A nice chap who seemed genuinely interested in the car unlike so many dealers who know little about what they are selling.

Yep, the campaigns are all fairly Mickey Mouse, had mine done while the vehicle was serviced. Steering alignment isn't one of them though.

Now there's a word, that no self respecting manufacturer (outside of the gaming industry) would EVER want used to describe their company or product. All the discussions prior to sales were about convincing buyers it WOULDN'T be a gamble. By using that word now, you're NOT complimenting them. By following up with a litany of misses, you just tattooed "failure" right on their forehead. LOL... Seriously, I couldn't imagine being the lead product manager for this thing and being happy about reading that.

Maybe, but with all that said, would you recommend buying the Grenadier to close family member or friend who doesn't share your almost blind devotion the the brand? I don't know.

Hi Trobex, I have been thinking about your back and wonder if it would be a good idea to look at after-market custom-made seats that are readily available and can also have lumbar support fitted to the existing seats...I feel for those who can't get to the G Spot, knowing it can be fixed. We have spent the money so we should be comfy mate ;) (y)

I did not deem the vehicle unroadworthy.
Happy to share my specialist engineering report after Ineos attempt to resolve by trying to fob me off with change the ball joints and the customer will be happy! The ball joints were in spec and fine!

So much verbal diarrhea

Well summed up.
I am getting the feeling that most of the complaining (except for the early owners) is coming from people who made the wrong decision to purchase a Grenadier.
This vehicle is not for everyone. Doesn't make you better or worse than others.
I see people saying Ineos should change to rack & pinion steering, this means they would need to change to an independent front end.
Not what we want.
I would love the HVAC to have better settings and more adjustability but..........

Some people want
  • more ground clearance
  • Airbag suspension
  • better sound system
  • larger fuel tank
  • better fuel economy
  • more power
  • more torque
  • different engine
  • different axles
  • different transfer case
  • different lockers
  • off road modes
  • etc etc etc
Clearly what they want is a different vehicle
Or one they can modify to their own needs.

As you said all owners can go ahead and spend thousands on aftermarket accessories.

As someone who just acquired a Grenadier I had the benefit of reading this forum for months then taking multiple test drives before I purchased one. I knew exactly what I was getting which is a very different experience than people who ordered them when they first came out. It is easy to imagine the Grenadier as something different when you only have the website and way too many YouTuber's etc describing it and potentially omitting things that might be important to you.

I happen to own a sports car that is equally unique and I would guess that more than 50% of them changed hands in the first 2 years because it is so different than what people imagined it would be.

In both cases I love these vehicles because the Grenadier is NOT a luxury car dressed up to be an off road vehicle and my other car isn't a sporty looking luxury car, its a sports car. To me they are the purest form of what they are suppose to be...

There is a lumbar support available from Recaro, about £100, a tenth of that if you are willing to buy generic.

Actually, I would use gamble. That's why my VIN is still sitting on the lot. Once a week I tell shezimm I'm tired of looking at my screen saver, I think I've got most of the issues worked out that can be, and before I call and throw the dice, I log on to see if Ineos decided to fix what only they can fix, and instead I read of more reasons to not live 5 hours from a dealer.

We're much in the same party here from what you wrote. I think your observation of reality was right, just not complimentary to Ineos. You're just OK with your outcome of the gamble, whereas for the amount of driving I do I'd be onto oil change 2 and having to take it to the dealer would make me bananas. And that's just one of the issues no other car has that ought not be.

I may just end up being a MY25 or 26, assuming they actually listen to their customers. I'm the weird HS chick that got dumped, but still thinks he's gonna come back in time for the prom.

I had contacted Scheel-Mann after my full street test drive, and thats how I was considering going, but, you'll have an airbag situation that could turn into a legal situation right quick if there's an injury. A fella here explained the seat disassembly process to get the air limber installed. I think thats the solution.
