Ground clearance

Can anyone with access to a showroom measure the ground clearance under the fuel tank protection plate (lowest part) IA are saying 264mm and I'm curious to see if it is correct, in the past with other manufacturers this has not been so

A little late in answering your question but better late than never

Ground clearance claims are a little overstated - the other measurements I took went down as low as 243mm.

Yeah 268 is a lie. 248. 20mm is a lot - vehicle is empty at present and only half tank fuel.

Ground clearance is the one hurdle I see needs addressing. I'm very interested too see what owners think of the +30mm Eibach springs, and more excited if other options appear.

Which wheels? The 17” are slightly smaller than the 18”. You can bet they took their meas

Where are they measuring from. Generally the diff is the lowest spot and a lift won’t help at all with that unless larger tires as well.

A suspension lift will increase ground clearance for the undercarriage, including the fuel tank skid plate, which is very low in the Grenadier (about as low as the rear diff). But in addition, a suspension lift allows one to run taller tires without rubbing - and the taller tire increases clearance under the differentials and axle housing.

With the Grenadier, I would guess that people who do a suspension lift will mostly fall into one of two camps:

1 - Those who want to keep the stock-size tires, but replace the stock springs with springs that have a higher load rating - with the goal of reducing suspension sag when carrying heavy loads. These will probably be folks who regularly load-up the Gren either for work or for overlanding.

2 - Those who want to lift the suspension in order to run taller tires - with the goal of increasing ground clearance, both for the undercarriage and for the differentials and axle housing. For all its strengths, there are a lot of scenarios in which a Gren driver might want more ground clearance than the stock vehicle provides.

less than I thought, and arse about face as smaller width/height on the 18's;

looks like I got some non-specific tyre info from the tyre size comparison website.

couldn't find the diameter on the BFG uk website but this one shows for K02's that it's 32" v 31.6" for the 18/17" rim tyres respectively. I.e the 18's are taller, which makes more sense.

True, which in terms of actual ground clearance is 5-6mm in favour of the 18"wheels...
At 110kmh indicated (based on 17" wheels), the actual speed for the 18" wheel with 255/70/18 tyres is 111.6kmh...which is well within the mandated order of accuracy of the speedometer. In "the real world" operation there is no significant difference.... except for price and possibly comfort given the +7mm sidewall advantage of the 17"wheel (185mm vs 178mm for the 18"wheel)) .

Reviving an old thread but with the Eibach prototype USA spec springs and piggyback shocks with 35x12.5 Toyo open country rt trails on 17x8 reika wheels, the car has the following ground clearances I measured tonight. Tires are at 37 PSI:

15.5” front control arm brackets
19” rub rail slider
Rear control arm brackets 14.5”
Bottom of gas tank skid 13.5”
Rear differential 11”
Front differential 11”
