I have no experience in 3D printing but i knew we had five 3D printers at work (i approved the purchases). I walked over to over mechanical engineering team with the file and asked them if they could print it for me, ideally in orange. They looked the file and told me this would be easy to print.
I have no idea what resolution etc we are using at work, i suspect its very good because its a pretty minute difference between our injection molded parts vs our printed parts we use in the prototyping process.
They told me it would take 48 hours to print this on the printer so they would do it over a weekend. they said that the part doesn't use very much filament so it should be fine. I was kind of surprised how long it would take given your comments about a couple of hours.
I asked how much the printer was to see if they put me on some old obsolete printer, but they told me it was a 2022 model year printer that cost about $50K in the base version but they had it upgraded to about $70k. Its significantly larger than the printers i've seen pictures of in this thread.
They had some much smaller printers as well but they said those wouldn't be ideal for this print job. The guy in charge of the mechanical engineering department told me that seeing the picture in the cubby was helpful for them to determine how they where going to print this. They said that they will probably fire this off over thanksgiving since the printers won't be used for other stuff over the long weekend.
If its not obvious, I'm kind of clueless at deep mechanical engineering. Lets talk software or Electrical engineering and i'm in my comfortable space.
