I'm with you on that @Greg a lockable box inside the spare wheel will be great fro me to put the kids life jackets in to dry out on the way home.

Sorry if this is covered already but I haven’t read every comment.

The locking box is just that, it slots in to the spare wheel and then fixes onto the spare wheel carrier. I am pretty certain the bottom front panel is fixed and then the top hinges down.

Yes that is what it looks like from the phots/videos, but the non hinging cover is still a mystery as to if it has some mechanism for attaching it or not behind the little square cap in the centre

I think we should be very grateful it's not something like this hateful thing. I'm guessing whoever was responsible for the Grenadier cover had more than a little experience wrestling a new one of these on and off and decided there was a much better way to do it. 👏

I think your term “hateful” sums it up perfectly. They are a pain in the rear end and quite easily stolen, ready to be sold back to you on eBay when you go looking for another one.

I like the ones that have a German shepherd dog printed on them or an eagle 🤣

I did not order the sparewheel box. - Was considering it - but as of now - there might be an aftermarket solution. Perhaps not made from plastic but aluminium or similar.
The idea is great - but what I demand is a little bit different. - I ve got a fried with 3D Printer .. perhaps design a prototype for something that suits my requirements better.
Aftermarket sparewheel lockers are also around 430 - 470 Euros .. cost / Value doesn't match in my opinion. None of 'em as far as I investigated.

Just read through all of this. One thing that stands out for me is the rear wheel seems to be mounted face to the door. My Jeep and my Disco 2 mounted the spare with the face outward so without a cover on, those behind you saw the pretty side. Turning the tire the other way around is what creates the storage area, correct?

That is correct. My wife has decided it would be worthwhile getting the storage box as we won't be towing , and every spare storage option is worthwhile.
Mind you the wheel will be covered by a canvas bin bag , which also increases the security of anything in the wheel compartment.

May have to cover the key entrance way with a bit of Gaffer Tape to keep the dust out of the keyway slot in some situations. You can find the Gaffa Tape insode the spare wheel cover Tazzieman.
