Maybe a threaded rod behind it with a wingnut? That looks like a removable cap in the centre. Is there some sort of attachment mechanism under it or is it just a leverage point to get the thing off?

Well spotted. That looks like a removable cap in the centre. Is there some sort of attachment mechanism under it or is it just a leverage point to get the thing off?
It does now you have edited the post and removed the original words...who does that rather than just say "ah, I got hold of the wrong end of that stick"?In this post you have cited my previous reply. This citation contains my attachment link which shows the lockable box, so that your "the photo posted" comment looks very much like you are referring to what you have cited: the lockable box picture. I have even written this literally in the respective posting.
Anyone have any idea how this cover actually clips into place?
I'm with you on that @Greg a lockable box inside the spare wheel will be great fro me to put the kids life jackets in to dry out on the way home.Lol, so starved for any information about the bloody thing that i pour over every damn picture i can get my hands on.
Good place for a rubbish bin so the Dingo's don't make a mess when the vehicle is left unattended.I'm with you on that @Greg a lockable box inside the spare wheel will be great fro me to put the kids life jackets in to dry out on the way home.
I think you are 100% correctSorry if this is covered already but I haven’t read every comment.
The locking box is just that, it slots in to the spare wheel and then fixes onto the spare wheel carrier. I am pretty certain the bottom front panel is fixed and then the top hinges down.
That is correct. My wife has decided it would be worthwhile getting the storage box as we won't be towing , and every spare storage option is worthwhile.Just read through all of this. One thing that stands out for me is the rear wheel seems to be mounted face to the door. My Jeep and my Disco 2 mounted the spare with the face outward so without a cover on, those behind you saw the pretty side. Turning the tire the other way around is what creates the storage area, correct?
May have to cover the key entrance way with a bit of Gaffer Tape to keep the dust out of the keyway slot in some situations. You can find the Gaffa Tape insode the spare wheel cover Tazzieman. That is correct. Mind you the wheel will be covered by a canvas bin bag , which also increases the security of anything in the wheel compartment.
I'd actually prefer it with no keyway.May have to cover the key entrance way with a bit of Gaffer Tape to keep the dust out of the keyway slot in some situations. You can find the Gaffa Tape insode the spare wheel cover Tazzieman.
