Fender / checker plate question

Having personally fitted after-market checker-plating to a brand new double cab Defender in my more impressionable days (wings and sills ) I personally wouldn't want to put myself through that experience again: Drilling holes through perfectly good body panels knowing I was completely with the paintwork and setting up all kinds of future corrosion issues felt like sacrilege!

did you 'ahem' prep the holes first?

Same here in Germany, the checker plates aren‘t available. So I‘ll wait for the after market. The same with the rocksliders and roof racks. The original ones don‘t fit my wishes, so I have to wait for other people getting my money…
I hope there will be some nice silders by Abenteuer4x4 and I know that there wil be a cargo bear by Nakatanenga for the Grenni.

That's the big issue - unless it's done at the factory and sealed properly then you've just introduced bare metal holes all through your shiny new rig. Unlikely to be done any differently if it's a dealer-fitted accessory, which is why I'm steering well clear

It does seem seem to fall between two stools - much smaller than the equivalent area on an older Defender, which comes much further forward towards the front light:

Both innermost chequer plates seem to be lifting at the frwd ends on that older Defender

The stuff on the bonnet isn't fixed, just resting there to see what it would look like if fitted.

Yes, JLR supply plastic ones as standard, but aftermarket now offer aluminium ones:

I can see possibilities for a jolly old garden party. Cup/bottle holders on the bonnet , the fender G&T mixing tray , the whole row for glasses on the huge front euro bumper .
In Australia we just grab a can and pfft , good to go

Yes, they are. But "steins", as you probably know them from the Oktoberfest, can be put anywhere.

Although they are of course not conducive to the paint.

They should remain in the hand until they are replaced on the bar for a refill!
That said , someone will work out how to attach them to the utility rail.

Depends where you are I believe. Australia they’re metal, and braced underneath.
