What did you do with your Grenadier today?

To quote Maxwell Smart: I missed it by that much.

I broke my own rule never parallel park a large 4x4 with off-road types. I just touched the corner of a ute tray and slightly damaged the door. The good news is it already fixed up and the door has been resprayed. It is about 2mm deep and 27cm long. For such a small dent it was expensive to fix, at one stage they were talking about replacing the whole door (that was crazy for so little damage). I never looked at the final bill, I just paid the insurance excess and I am going to be very careful down narrow tracks, as it did not take that much to damage it. Alloy doors are expensive to fix.

The door skins are Very Thin!
Unlike the aluminium doors on my '81 Porsche 928. That said, I park the shark well away from other cars. Finding someone who can properly repair alloy is somewhat tricky.
It sure is.
 
Put on the white knuckle sliders. 20 deg, no kick. I was concerned they might not sick out enough to work as steps, but they are perfect.
One man job with a plastic milk crate as an assistant. About 45 minutes. Impact wrench helped.

450km round trip to the dealer. Dropped mine off for a service and I have another mushroom SW for the week as they may take a while to fix the dying aircon.
Loaner is a diesel and apart from the growliness it's much of a muchness. Better fuel economy and engine braking , not surprising.
The side steps are wasted on me. I find it easier just leaping in.

I plan to do a longer post after my Agile install goes through. I've done a lot of small things that didn't seem worth mentioning. HOWEVER, I'm really proud of this. My 12 year old son got a 3D printer after saving up for over a year. I said I wanted something to take the place on the dashboard of the shallow tray and he built this himself! Now he is working on an improved model that won't slide as much.

Today I was out and about in the countryside again. Even though I almost only drive Grenadiers. People are allowed to see that I also have a heart for Land Rovers. But only the real ones! Not the ones that just say Land Rover on them.

Last Sunday I drove up to Mackay in about 8 hours with the Grenadier loaded up with a basic loadout for a week travelling through the coal mine sites.
We decided to use the sales rep from MM Electrical Mackays Ford Everest instead.
So parked my truck in their yard and loaded the Everest.........with half the stuff.........because that's all that would fit.
The Everest was good for the long drives on bad country roads, but you sit very low, and damn did it have beeps and warnings going off.
The seats were large but very soft.
Window sill was at shoulder height.
In the Grenadier I threw my 5.11 backpack in the back on top of the white table and still had room next to the fridge for a slab of water along with another in the fridge.
In the Everest we had to put backpack and water on the back seat.
Considering the Everest is longer overall, but Grenadier has 22mm longer wheelbase and it really has significantly more interior space.
Damn it was good to get back in to the Grenadier on Friday for the 8 hour drive home.
Both are 3 litre diesels and only 1 KW difference, with the Everest having 50 NM more torque, but over such a short range it was gutless.
I think you would be very happy with the Everest if you never drove a Grenadier.
The cockpit on the Grenadier is massive, open and airy compared to the Everest.
Particularly as I have the Safari windows.

The GrenX Grenadier reviewed:


Plans for 2025 include 4495kg GVM upgrade kits, lighting packages, a replacement airbox that works with a sealed intake snorkel, engine tuning, wheel-arch flares, air compressor mounts, swaybar and steering stabiliser relocation mounts, extended brake lines, and diff breathers.
 
I have had to do my bit at the Kindergarten that I and my wife work at, I am their fixit guy/handyman and today I had to take the post hole shovel plus the crowbar.
I made good use of the anchor points to keep these projectiles at bay as you can see the lauch pad was the back seat folded down and the direction was straight through the windscreen.

You lost me at Ford Dave…
The plastic side steps were rubbish and the low roof height made getting in and out with a hard hat on impossible.
Plenty of height inside to wear one but stupid that I had to take it off to get in and out.
Such a big vehicle with so little room.
They only cost $82,000 but way short of the Grenadier specs.
 
Yesterday we took a day trip to Wissembourg in northern Alsace. The old town is picturesque and we had a good lunch at Café Rebert.

In the late afternoon we drove back to Germany and met up with @Pat-Ard. It was so much fun. :D
