I present the Auto Start/Stop Temporary fix

Exactly, unbolting the section of the panel and replacing a button with a simple switch. It looks like it could be done from the outside. But in reality that possibility does not exist. The design of this panel promises something from the outside that it can't fulfill from the.inside. Too bad for a otherwise so honest car.

Slightly off topic, but if you have a diesel, leave the stop/start active.

Reason - the egr valve is wide open until 1,000 rpm introducing the maximum amount of soot into the intake. You should avoid idling altogether with a modern diesel.

I don't think you can. I opened up that central console with the idea that I'll mount my bass control knob next to the volume knob. The entire back of that panel is a printed circuit board with the buttons soldered onto it. Can't easily add, remove or modify anything there.

If anything this should have been individual buttons, I would have loved for this to be more modular.

(by the time I'm dead) there will be lots of mod options.
Are you going to have one of those coffins with lots of shiny plastic bling? Or going the billet tactical hardware route?

Likely mulch in some 3rd world country. I don't want preserved anyway. I want back in circulation as fast as possible. Why ride out the next 100k years in a hole?

You could always get up close and personal with some sharks if the idea of a carbon fibre wrapped casket doesn't appeal.

I am working on a button to flick switch converter....

This is hilarious that you just started that... I literally started modeling something similar this evening. I haven't gotten as far as you:

I will pause and see what you come up with!

And if you are working in SolidWorks and want to collaborate- let me know. Happy to help.

I upgraded my Metal Tab!
Big thanks to @GrenadierUSA
I purchased the cup holder and noticed this nifty little switch holder.
I sent them a joke email about getting royalties for my idea that they obviously upgraded and put much more thought in to than my little chunk of aluminum.
Low and behold they sent me one no charge.

I can’t say enough about the quality of the parts or the quality of the customer service. These parts look better than stock, and that’s rare in the aftermarket world.

Well, there goes your claim. You’ve officially been paid “in kind”.

No fortune, just more of the weekly grind for you.

I never expected anything to be honest. This is well beyond my skill level. The gesture alone is beyond appreciated. I would have paid for it. I put the idea out to help people solve the start/stop. I certainly never expected any compensation.

Sadly the grind never stops!
