Good afternoon All,

I was checking the output on my front and rear NextBase dashcams and spotted this Wifi Hotspot GRENADIER-7472AFO showing on my iPhone.

Does anybody know what this is for? I am not aware of a Sim card in the Grenadier although there is the Emergency call button that must communicate somehow.

I can’t spot any relevant section in the manual.

Or am I missing something…..

Thanks
John

1. Is the WiFi/Hotspot only for iPhone CarPlay?
2. Why is it encrypted?
3. Is there a way to reset the key and what else can you do with it?
I have a GooglePhone with Android 13.

I don't have my truck yet. However the users manual says you can go to 'Settings' -> 'Communication' -> 'Wifi Hotspot Active and Visible' -> and review setting for the hot spot.

No idea what you can do past that point.

I am wondering if, having a phone paired to the vehicle, a local Wifi hotspot is established through the phone data to which small passengers in the rear seats can connect iPads and such? Would be a cool feature.

That would be nice but I think Khalfan323 has it correct in post #2 above. It’s just an option for doing CarPlay / Android Auto using WiFi rather than Bluetooth. My son was slightly disappointed that connecting to the vehicle WiFi didn’t magically give him an internet connection from the back seat. 😀

Hi All,

Reviving an old post because I have not been able to find much info on hotspot capabilities. I was able to copy paste the below from a US dealers site. I plan on discussing with them when I go back and visit them. thoughts?

Technology and Telematics

  • Mobile hotspot - WiFi on the fly. Connect your devices to the Internet through your vehicle's private mobile hotspot and take the internet wherever your journey takes you, without eating up your data allowance. Find the hotspot with mobile hotspot.

I'm still confused by the in car WiFi, mine doesn't auto connect to Android auto so other than the SOS button and a red signal indicator in corner of screen, I have no idea what it does??

Some manufacturers many years ago (BMW, Porsche Connect) etc. You could buy data package from the manufacturers connect portal. Essentially upgrades which could be downloaded to the infotainment system. This data will allow passengers (travellers or kids) with no data on their phones to login to the wifi and access the internet.

However, since the rise of cheap mobile phone data, E Sims for tourists and Apple car play. This is now old tech and no one ever uses it anymore.

What version of Android Auto do you have on your phone 📱, from memory current version is 14. I presume you have been into the Android app on your phone, there is a setting to turn on Android Auto automatically. If that is set to off it won't connect.
In the Android Auto app, there is an option " configure in Android Auto" select that option and select "start automatically". Also check all the settings in " configure in Android Auto"
