Where is the front auxiliary power point?

Hi @ericge

I saw a post on facebook a while ago from another Aussie RHD grenadier owner. I can't find the post now unfortunately....but he found both the 10A standard, and 25A optional auxiliary wire pairs on the driver side next to the air filter housing. I've had a look at mine, and I can clearly see the 25A pair taped to the harness near the front of the filter housing. If I follow that same harness in your picture toward the windscreen, and look down at the harness between the rear of the filter housing and the brake fluid reservoir, I can see electrical tape going around the main harness, which in all other cases on my car has meant auxiliary wires are taped there. They are not easily accessible, so I can't confirm. I have had the top of the air filter housing off, and still cannot reach them.
Need to raise the bonnet into the "maintenance" position, then stand on the very strong steel front bumper bar and carefully extend yourself over the engine... there's a lot to see. Removing the large plastic engine cover provides a magnificent view of German engineering (y)
A little fiddling with the wiring harness will reveal its secrets!
...I've lusted after a "Beemer" engine for 50 yrs😜...indeed look carefully to the rear on the (proper) LHS of the diesel version, you will indeed find the elusive dipstick. (That's of course no reference to the casual 'dipsticks' walking by and asking "whaddareyadoingupthere?"

I have found and tested both the 25A (EXT5) and 10A (EXT1) auxiliary wire pairs. My 10A pair is still taped in the second pic. The 25A pair exit the harness on the engine side of the harness, and the 10A pair exit on the fender side of the harness.

That looks good - but have you taken something out? Like the air filter unit? Just about to go downstairs in the dark and see if I can orient your picture...

Yes, the air filter housing has been removed in my pics.

Well, here's a surprise. I have asked our sales agent to help me finding the elusive 10A outlet. And, yes, there it was under the air filter housing and they fitted a tail and a deutsch socket. There was no 25A outlet, because the vehicle configuration I ordered did not include one.

All fair enough, even if it took far too long to work out what was needed. Am I happy? Well, yes, sort of. What I am definitely NOT happy about is that this exercise cost me $200! I await a comment (and refund?) from IEOS...

Wait, the added a DTP plug? That's interesting. We need newer owners to confirm that new ones are gearing upgrades.

The extra auxiliary wiring does not come from Ineos with Deutsch sockets pre wired.
If your dealer fitted one, that's a plus and you can't expect them to work for free. Instead you could have bought all the gear and crimpers and invested your time, which would likely have exceeded $200. If you think you might want to do the same for the other 4-5 extra auxiliary wires, then it might make sense to invest your time and money. DaBull

One plug ($25), (was it a DT or the more expensive DTP?) some cable ($2-5) , a couple of bullet connectors ($0.50)
and 30 mins labour max(A$75 at $150ph). I'd have thought $125 max. would be more than reasonable. I'd ask them what their hourly labour costs are and think about what this tells you for future work....
I'm presuming the Cairns outlet is a multi-franchise operation in which case Deutsch plugs will be part and parcel of their work...

My Cairns-based daughter sometimes complains this sort of apparent monopoly situation... she refers to it as "The Cairns Tax"...

Auto electrical work is always charged at very high rates. Last time it cost me more per hour than my skin specialist (I was having my annual skin cancer checkup when the car work was being done). Your labour cost per hour is very optimistic in my case 300 per hour (at least he found the problem). The skin guy was a mere 250 per hour.

I spent some money on INEOS bits and pieces (DTP, DT plugs, crimpers, spare fuses, a spare busbar, etc), but I know it will be cheaper in the long run. I had to spend some to save even more money.

The vehicle came with a 10A outlet which, for reasons I speculate about, was buried out of reach and not identified in any documentation I have found. It took time to find and an extra $200 to access. I don't blame the sales agent - they have to be paid for their work. I do blame INEOS for advertising an outlet that is actually inaccessible.

I understand your are upset.
If you need to find one of the other outlets you might search the forum first. I think most to all of them have been explored by now.

I finally found it through the forums, but you have to be selective as RHD and LHD layouts are different, plus petrol/diesel? Plus... I don't know what.

This wasn't a regular procedure. Just the sales agency and I getting together to fix a design failure.
