What mileage is your Grenadier achieving in real life driving?
l've heard conflicting reports of around 20mpg up to high 20's from the diesel, and it's something that is important to me before l order one.

My old Defender managed around 25mpg in mixed city/highway driving.

It is slowly improving over time, initially 22.7 mpg, up to 400 miles. At 1000 miles I'm seeing 23.9 mpg. I used to get 30 mpg from my old LR110CSW running on cooking oil.

My concern is it makes a nice noise when going into kickdown, lifting it's skirts and hurtling towards the horizon, so any savings from the more modern design will be lost by hooning it around. I have a busy week, so I'll take it a little more gently and see what I get.

I reckon you will get a little better as INEOS says 10.5lt per 100km in a combined cycle but with 28% loaded - which is 22.4 MPG.

Unloaded or lightly loaded and gentle driving should get it to 26-28 MPG

I'm glad no-one has written "if you have to ask that you can't afford to run one", a comment I've read elsewhere as if it doesn't matter. Of course it matters. The real question is: does it matter enough not to run one? Clearly it doesn't for most of us here, but I know I'll be trying to squeeze the best figures I can out of it. I've just had a look at the Autotrader review that gives it just one star on running costs. That'll surprise no-one here. But it only gave it two stars for safety and three for reliability. How do they reach that conclusion? I'm just taking comfort from memories of running a Jeep Cherokee for some years where the mpg was less than 20 most of the time. But what a fun car until the frame rotted away, such a shame as the engine was still fantastic. I'm excited as I should pick up my Grenadier this week, not sure how long I'll run it as there's no doubt it's an indulgence. So what? I'm old enough to indulge a bit.

Wait till you get in it and you develop the “Gren Grin”.. It’s the most solid passenger vehicle I’ve ever driven. Now 800 miles in with mine and getting c 22/3mpg pottering about and 26/6mpg on longer runs. It also smoother to drive and quieter now than during the first couple of hundred miles..

autotrader’s review be damned..

Haha - I think the GREN factor will easily allow us owners to look the other way for maybe 1-2mpg... 🤭

l don't think the MPG is bad for the type of vehicle that it is, l just have a minimum figure in my mind of 20mpg.

l can get my Defender D250 (diesel) below 20mpg if l hoon around in it and use the maximum acceleration all the time.

ln reality l would have no issues running a vehicle if it only did 15mpg but it would be nice if l could achieve mid 20's

l would rather put £60 of diesel per week in a Grenadier or Defender, than £30 of diesel in a dreary SUV.

Fuel efficiency (diesel version) is not a major issue for me but based on what I have read and my expected driving (reasonably light footed) - I would hope for at least 25mpg after the engine is fully run in, except when towing/fully laden of course.

Around town, on the highway or mixed??

At $2 bucks a L - yep. I am hoping for the 10.5L/100km - to at least beat my old Triton and not look too much like an Eco vandal.

It doesn't matter for the same reason that if it did matter then no one would be buying this vehicle anyway.

I've set a low bar. Beat the 11.4mpg I get in my 4Runner. Extra credit for getting anywhere near 20. I'm pleased with the numbers I've heard so far.
I'm with you = 10 years of Xterra ownership at altitude, I consider 16mpg normal, so as long as it's not below that, it's all good for me.

My sierra duramax is 14 mpg. I normally don't care about fuel costs, but driving the electric truck now saves me more than its payment is every month. Makes keeping it a no brainer whether i get the grenadier or not.

I should add that Greg Clark told me at the 2022 Seattle sneak peek to not have super high expectations when I told him I just wanted to beat my 4Runner mileage. He explained the MPG won't be as good as other vehicles with the same engine because the IG is so heavy. Took a little wind out of my sails but I don't think it sunk in with him how bad my Toyota does. Roof rack, 2 inch lift, KO2s and a drawer system will knock any car down, especially when it was underpowered to start off.
