What did you do with your Grenadier today?

1wk of ownership and got to test out Grenadier in some Sierra snow, packed powder and fresh stuff.

Tires were better than expected, good braking, consistent acceleration grip, and when they did step out, they were predictable in their understeer. All I see online is the KO2 is not great for snow/wet, but great for rocky/sandy. (Any other tires that people like for snow/wet instead of the KO2?)

The front wipers suck. Borderline dangerous in freezing temperatures combined with falling light snow and heavy frozen slush from road spray. Really uneven pressure on the blade and severe snow build up. Gonna change those out as soon as I’m home.

Got to experience the heater whine (pretty loud) at full blast. Kind of annoying when you’re trying to mitigate the ice and snow buildup on the sucky wipers. Any solution for this noise? It’s only on full blast, nothing on the other settings. Going in for an A/C flush and refill this week, so might bring the heater whine up too, assuming it’s fixable and not a “quirk”.

The center locker (4H/locked) is night and day better for slippery, slushy, snow covered roads over the open diff (standard 4wd). Makes for a much more secure and planted experience when the road got bad.

Nokian Hakkapelitta LT3 winter tyres, and Bosch or Denso Hybrid wiper blades have been described as better alternatives in different threads.

Using separate tyre sets in summer/winter reportedly causes a need for TPMS sensor cloning which is said to be tricky. In summer, winter tyres are not ideal and in some countries not road legal. All-year tyres seem to be a workable compromise for many unless too old/hard and unless one lives in the mountains.

I am fine with the KO2, replaced the driver side wiper with the Denso. My QM offers a different ride though due to the longer wheelbase. Wondering how the KO3 are.

Starlink Mini should keep the kids entertained on the trip out from Austin
Keep the windows up, radio off, chain smoke, and give 'em one book for the trip. Embrace the '70s parenting style! ;)

We drove from Southern California to DFW every summer to visit family when I was a kid. It was brutal, especially after the 55mph speed limit was introduced.

Finally got around to getting the boards out of the back and mounting them on the roof.
In preparation for trip North next month.

I got a low tire light a few miles from home (starting a 350mi drive), pulled over to pump some air back in the tire and found that swapping it was a more appropriate solution

Got home, swapped it for the spare (impact and floor jack in the driveway make the job much more enjoyable than on the side of the road with hand tools) and realized I hadn't even noticed where the leak was actually coming from

Sooooo these Wildpeak A/T3Ws with almost 23k miles will be going the way of the dodo tomorrow and get swapped out for a fresh set of Wildpeak A/T4Ws along with some other goodies

Checked out a revised roof box position.

Added some furniture feet pads to the Rotopax as the noise of them banging on the Molle panels was highly aggravating.

Weeped at my now leaking front diff.

Boxes over hang at the back as prefer they don't hang over the safaris and block the light/opening them.

New Agile Overlander XT wheels. Loving the new offset and the wheels just slightly protrude from the wheel arches. The black lip makes the wheels look a little beefier as well. View attachment 7890371
RobP:
That looks great. I like those wheels immediately when I saw them. Can you tell me if your greanadier is lifted and what size tires you are using?
Thank you in advance.
Jeff

That sidewall split doesn’t look good…I’m going to need new tires soon and will be looking for other options to the KO2’s (no issues with them but thinking of trying something else.

Treated my Grenadier to not one, but THREE chips in my windshield yesterday... 418 miles on the odometer and fresh out of winter storage. A large truck headed down the two-way opposite me decided he'd run right down the middle of the road... bang, bang, bang! This is why I usually don't take cars out of storage until mid-April to allow the detritus of winter wash away. Figures, as I had declined to install the windshield protection film after watching a few YouTube videos.

I would like to k ow how you make out with the AC and heat “quirk”. Also, what wipers are you going with? Have you decided?
